Bleeding nipple and pain in breast

Is this a sign of anything?  I woke up this morning with some blood stains on shirt from my nipple, figured it was because I just added another pumping session.  Now the whole breast is just sore.  Any advice would be appreciated!  TIA!

    When I had some blood coming from the nipple while pg, my MW determined it was like a cut right below the surface and not coming from inside.  But if you have pain too, I would definitely call and ask to be seen.  It could just be that something was injured while pumping, but I would get checked out.  And really, no pumping session should be so strong as to hurt you!

    If you have a cut on your nipple and the whole breast feels sore - it's not a good sign. This in combination with a clog could mean a mastasis infection is on the way.  Try to ge the cut healed by applying lanolin and be sure to keep it clean so it does  not get infected.  Rinse your breast off after every feeding and apply a little milk to air dry before using the lanolin (I actually use olive oil now - BTW).  The bacteria naturally found in DC's mouth can infect your cut (and you would never notice until it was a full blown mastasis infection).

    I would call OB.  It's really your issue, not LO's.  My MW told me in the hospital to call if I got mastitis and they would just call in a prescription (which already happened to me and they did).

    I called my OB.  He gave me a script for antibiotics to prevent infection because I also had a clogged duct for like 3 days in addition to the cut and sore breast.
