Need Some Crib Opinions

Ok, so I'm going back and forth between two cribs/ changer combos  Both I absolutely love.  But I have some reservations about one of them.  The first one is from BRU, and is twice as expensive as the second one.  This is what my mom and I have been conflicted over.  She and my MIL are buying the furniture for the nursery so both said price doesn't matter to them.  But my problem with the first is that the changer is attaced and the crib will be up against the wall and I'm thinking when you go to change the baby you're right arm is going to be constantly hitting the wall.  And it doesn't disconnect - which I thought would be a good option if it could - it stays as one of the sides, until you make it a twin bed.

Space is not an issue b/c we have large room for the nursey.  I love them both - the second one comes with the day bed/toddler gate, where as the first doesn't - so that would be another expense down the rood for that one.

I just keep thinking there is so much going against the first one in my mind, but my mom keeps pushing it on me.

What do you guys think???

Re: Need Some Crib Opinions

  • I personally like the second one.  I understand it is hard when someone is buying you a gift and they are pushing for something in particular but it will be something you use everyday so you should go with your gut feeling.

  • I like the second one. We considered the attached changing table and ultimately decided against it for similar reasons to yours. I would also check the ratings on the cribs. We fell in love with a crib and it was very disappointing to see how bad it had rated.

  • Go with the second one. After all it is ultimately your decision as to what you like best.

  • They both have good ratings.  The only complaint for the second one was due to shipping - it sometimes comes with a knick in the wood (something I can totally deal with).

Mands - I looked at each photo thousands of times, and you can see that the changer is the side panel, and only is detached from the crib once it's a twin.  But I could be wrong - it just really really looks that way to me.

  • I like the second one and since you don't have to worry about the size of the room, I like having the changing table separate.  Good luck!

  • I like the second one too, its nice that you can convert it and I think its nicer to get a crib separate from the changing table because late on you can use that table to something else and the crib as a toddler bed.

I see the first as being to much of a risk if your baby ends up being a climber. Not to mention if your not pressed for space I would go with the second one. The pros for it seem to out weight the other one and im all about multi-use items. This way later on you can use the changing table as storage once its  no longer needed for a changing table.

  • I vote the 2nd one.  Ones with the changing table attached is a good idea, but what are going to do with it when you no longer need it?  It's the same way I think about changing tables in general which is why we're using a dresser and just putting a changing pad on top.

  • Yeah, the second one.  I think you're right that the first one has too much going against it, and if it's more expensive, well, that seals the deal.

  • I would go with the second one.  I prefer the style anyway, but on top of it, you make an excellent point about not having arm space with the first one's changing table.

Have you considered not using a changing table at all?  We're just going to put a changing pad on the dresser.  I'm only mentioning it because you seem to be letting the changing table dictate which crib you purchase, and really, you'll have the nursery furniture for many years and the changing table for only a few.

  • Thanks everyone for your opinions.  You're helping to solidify my choice of number 2.  Now if I can only get my mom to go with it!

And to answer the ?'s some of you asked about having a changing pad on the dresser - my best friend did that and I don't mind that option.  However, the dresser that is in that room is an antique from my great great grandmother and I really don't want to chance ruining it any more than I already have in the 15 years that I've had it.

  • Just a follow up:

I guess my mom got the hint b/c i got this in an email from her based on the second set:

"Your baby will be so very comfortable and happpy there.  Your room will be truly enhanced with this set in it."

  • I vote for #2. I love the curvy lines!
  • Where is #2 from?  I like it a lot!
