I dont know what else to do- my gums are so sore during this pregnancy. I used to have some minor bleeding gums when I brushed my teeth last time around too, but this time they are a little sorer and I floss and brush regularly. I dont want it to turn into gingivitus.
Thanks!
Re: Is Listerine safe to use during pregnancy?
Yes.
I would also try to get something that has fluoride in it. Like ACT.
Yes, listerine is fine. Just don't swallow it.
Also, what works really well is rinsing your mouth with warm salt water after flossing and brushing. Tastes terrible, but I guarantee it will help your gums a lot!
Yes, fluoride is great to have in your mouthwash, but it isn't going to help your gums in this situation... but great for your teeth.
This is what I was going to say...it will totally help!
I know. My dentist was just really adamant about fluoride usage during pregnancy and suggested it as an alternative mouthwash to listerine.
I have tried the salt water thing and as gross as it is, it really does help a lot with the gums.
This just made me lol at my desk.
I wouldn't necessarily seek out fluoride treatments. Fluoride while in small doses is probably fine, it is a toxic substance, that falls between elements lead and arsenic. I guess this would be more applicable if it is drinking water vs. a mouth rinse that is spit out.
I do use listerine as we have a whole bottle of it and my hubby is a fan. But maybe tom's of maine would be a more natural option and it is alcohol free i believe which won't dry out your mouth as much as listerine. Possibly the drying action of alcohol based mouth washes actually contribute to the cycle of bad breath i read somewhere. Maybe your dentist would know better what to use. Good question!
I don't mean to sound like an alarmist, I just probably wouldn't seek out MORE fluoride as being necessarily a "good thing". I mean, just cause a doctor says it's good doesn't mean it is so. They also use mercury fillings, I know I have a few
And prescribe drugs that are later recalled. And who knows what's in tap water or bottled water, I don't mean for you to make a decision like that. But for things that are easy to avoid if you have a concern and are questioning its use, maybe a more natural remedy would be better. I don't mean alcohol as a drink but that it dries out your mouth and the reason that babies mouths smell good supposedly is that they have lots of saliva. Good luck with your gums hun. Mine were bleeding bad when hubby got me an electric toothbrush. I have since switched to regular old soft bristle brush and mucho better.
