My FIL is retired and has been a HUGE help to us with John. I got a call on Tuesday afternoon from DC that he had a slight fever, so I went to pick him up and of course they have the policy that they have to be without a fever for 24 hours before returning. He was fine yesterday, the highest his fever got was 101.2, which was at the end of the day (which is normal), but he was his happy active self. He slept great last night, didn't have a fever when he woke up, but right before DH was going to take a shower he took his temp and it was at 99.8. So of course we can't take him today. My FIL had him yesterday and is taking him today. Since John started DC he has saved DH and I from having to take a combined 36 hours of leave. Which I'm sure everyone knows how precious it is after coming back from maternity leave. And it was cute yesterday, we were telling FIL we thought he would probably be ok going back to DC today and you could tell he was disappointed.
Re: Thank God for retired parents
yes - I totally agree. Grandparents rule - especially for working parents!
does your FIL need a side job??? because I would pay to have someone save us from having to pick up from daycare on days like that. lol.
it sucks because when you get that call to come get them, they have to be free of symptoms for 24 hours. so if he comes down with something Tuesday afternoon, one of us automatically has to be home with him Wedsnedsay too. and sometimes thursday.
I want a retired FIL.
I hear ya! My mom is retired and I have no idea what we would have done without her for these past few months - even though she lives 4 hours away! She has come to stay with us multiple times and she is the kind of person who I could call and she would drop everything and jump in the car if DS was sick and we couldn't miss work.
My parent's house looks like a small scale BRU too - and we have been to visit ONCE, haha! They turned a spare room into a nursery for goodness sakes. We're headed to the ILs this weekend and I keep thinking to myself - if we were going to my parent's we wouldn't need to pack this or this or that because their house is stocked!
I'm a blessed mama, that's for sure.
Happy Birthday, little man. We love you so much!
My favorite money saving tip: I've earned more than $300 in gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks, Southwest!) using SwagBucks for internet searching - and you can too! It's FREE and EASY!
is it bad that I'm always excited for a good excuse to stay home? Not when she's actually sick, but when's she's got a little bug and is just a litlte calmer than normal.
I would too, if I had the sick or annual leave to use. As it is I'm saving as much as I can so we can go to OBX from a Wed to Wed to split the time between our parents rentals there.
That is so great! My IL's are like 25 mins. away and MIL just finished watching DD for the month of June so I could go back to work. However, she has stated that soon, she won't be able to pick Amelia up as she gets bigger and neither can FIL. So, even though they are our emergency contact for daycare this fall, it really means nothing. Even if MIL could carry DD, DD is not allowed in her car as she smokes heavily in it. My parents live 3 hours away...I wish they were closer! But my mom is moving in today until September 1st to help us out so I am very grateful!
