Re: PSA: 2 million Cribs recalled

  • Makes me glad I didn't get a drop-side.  I'm surprised they still sell them.

  • I can't believe people actually still buy drop side cribs.

    This!

  • I never even considered a drop side, but I think there were a few stationary cribs recalled, too, this time.

What is with all of the baby item recalls lately?  Between the meds, cribs and slings, I feel like there has been a new recall every month!

  • We originally had a drop side crib.  I originally loved it.  It was really convenient in the begining.  We never had any problems with it.  The only reason I grew to dislike it was that there were so many being recalled, and every recall made me worry.  Each time I sent DH up to inspect every single peice of hardware on that crib.  It was eventually recalled, and now we have a new stationary crib.

However, the same exact crib that we previously had is still on sale.  I see it in the circulars every single week.  It is just under a different manufacturer's name.  They didn't even change the picture they use. So they are still being sold, still being improperly assembled or having pieces break, and then being recalled.  Its a horrible cycle.  I don't get how they just haven't flat out banned drop side cribs to prevent the relabeling of bad products.

    How is this even legal?!?!

OUR CRIB is on the list by name but not by the manufacture date.  We  just bought weeks ago BUT it is not a drop side crib.  It's on the list because Lajobi made the Graco Lauren crib as a drop side until about September of 2009 then stopped.  This crib is no longer a drop side but has the same model name which may explain someone seeing that crib still on sale but it's actually designed differently.  Hope that makes sense.  If I had opened the box and it had been drop side, it would have went back to the store.

I completely understand the difference you are trying to illustrate.

But the crib I am talking about is exactly the same and still a drop side.  We had the Simplicity, and from what I gather, they went out of business and 'sold' their stock to another company which rebranded those same cribs and put them back on the market. The CSPC has recalled ALL of the Simplicity cribs, but becasue they sold off some of their assets, they don't know how many were actually sold.

The picture that was on my crib box in July 2008 was the same picture in the circular I took to the store to get my refund in May 2010.  Two completely different companies shouldn't have the same exact product, kwim?
