Happy Friday, ladies! In light of the latests recalls I'm wondering if I should get rid of my son's dropside crib. It is not recalled but it is exactly like the ones that are being recalled... a dropside with a pastic tracking system. I never actually use the dropside but it's there. It's not convertible so I don't have a reason to hang on to it for the future. He's 18 months and will probably be in a big boy bed in 6 months or so but he's def. not ready for one now... what to do.. what to do...
Re: SO.. Question Re. Dropside crib
Do you have a PNP he can sleep in in the meantime?
I know that a lot of us grew up with dropside cribs and nothing happened. But, it seems that it's an issue with the materials, like cheap plastics, that are being used now. My mom mentioned that my crib had a dropside, but it was all metal and very sturdy. However, the visuals and descriptions of what can go wrong with the current dropside cribs are scary enough that I would throw it out.
BTW, I just remembered, Ikea has a crib for $99 that converts to a toddler bed. It is rated very high for safety. We might get one to keep at my mom's house. That may be an affordable solution for your baby and he can use it until he's ready for an adult bed.
If you're going to buy a new piece of furniture, are you sure you should just go for the big boy bed? We transistioned my daughter early and haven't had a problem.
Good luck!
OMG! I have a Million Dollar Baby crib too! I didn't know they were part of the recall... I need to call Baby Love and see what to do.
I don't know if he is ready for a toddler bed yet. My crib is covertible, so I could probably just convert it early since I have all the parts, but I feel that I would be rushing it.
ARGH!!!!!!!!!

ok, so my crib is on the list.... looks like repair kits will be available for shipping in a few weeks! that is a long time!
their website suggests: "In the meantime, find an alternate, safe sleeping environment for the child"
really? It is so unacceptable that these things are happening and these cribs are being deemed so unsafe for children!!!!
Some children cannot sleep in a pack n play and it is incredibly unfair to make a child sleep uncomfortably (and both the parents & child suffer) while they take their sweet time to release the repair kit. Honestly I'm fine with Z sleeping in his crib until I receive my kit, he is getting big and doesn't move too much during the night anymore and we no longer use the dropdown anyway so I don't find it to be a problem, but just feel REALLY bad for smaller babies as I might feel a bit differently if my kid wasn't already approaching two.

If my son was 5 months old, I too, would feel wary about it. At 19 months I am not too concerned since we have never had an issue w/ the crib and it's very sturdy. I would not be happy about putting my baby in a PNP though, for an extended length of time (for a vacation, sure, but 6-8 weeks?? no way). I just don't feel that is an acceptable solution at ALL.
