Dude. I love the continuous spray suntan lotions. LOVE. So fast to get both girls completely lotioned up.
However, the stuff stains...BAD. Of course, the stains didn't appear until I tried to wash the bathing suits so I didn't know I was causing problems and now ALL of the girls bathing suits have yellow stains on all their edges -- where I sprayed both my girls and got the bathing suits.
I googled and it seems to be a common problem. From one thing I read it seems to be the Avobenzone in the suntan lotion reacting with the iron levels in the water. Everyone has offered several different solutions to try and clean them, so I'm going to try some of them. Otherwise all our swimsuits, while not necessarily ruined, look completely filthy with big huge yellow/orange stains!

the stains didn't show up until I washed them - so random! Apparently pool water didn't cause the reaction but something in our home water or detergent (tide).
I'll have to check out the ingredients on the neutrogena mist -- I'd hate to lose the ease of my spray lotion!
And just edited to change to sunSCREEN lotion in my title -- I had it wrong! (thanks!)6-yr-old Elena and 4-yr-old Julia.

I guess none of Abby's suits have enough pale area for this to have happened? I spray her naked. Are certain brands more prone?

I'm surprised so many people apply with their suits/clothes on and/or just when they're getting outside. I'm such a sunaphobe. If I'm going to be out in the sun, I sunblock head to toe (rub in kind) then dress and then maybe spray the areas that burn easily when I get to where I'm going. Sunblock takes up to 30 minutes to be fully effective and it takes time to soak in and set too. So I cringe when I see people applying block on their kids at the pool and then they jump right in. I know it might be their "second coat" like I do with myself and the kids but I doubt it.
Most shirts only have an SPF of about 15-20 and I've seen enough burns through shirts and swimsuits in the ER to fear being out in the sun without every precaution in place. I've also seen some nasty pediatric burns from missed places like the tops of ears and narrow areas around clothes or failure to overlap at the time of application.
Oh God. I'm so tired. Post Vomit. STOP ME!!!
I hear ya MrsRosie. I vow everyday to have Abby watch less TV. She's on her 4th show. **sigh** My daily mommy report card never has straight A's.
Us too. Maybe it has to do with the kind of water you have? We've got a softener. Oh and we use All Free & Clear.
