We did the 3 day potty training method (for daytime), and I know it says
for bedtime, to essentially do the same thing... underwear, wake them
up before you go to bed, but otherwise just let them pee in the bed
until they learn to wake up.
So we've been doing that with Ellie for 4 days now. She flat out refuses
to put pull ups on and really wants to wear big girl underwear. I feel
like we need to take her lead, and she's doing pretty well at naptime
(one accident today but overall really good). My mom seems to think that
she should "earn" not wearing underwear by not peeing in her bed, but I
feel like I need to take her lead. Anyway, it's day 4 and her bed is
wet in the morning but she's sleeping through it. Do you think this is a
problem or should we keep going with it? I am not sure what to do.
Re: advice for nighttime potty training
Have you limited her fluid intake before bed?
I take DD pee about 1-2 hours after she goes to bed. Then again 2 hours after that. She wakes up dry, now. It took a while though.
I would say since she is not waking up when she wets the bed, it won't do her any good, yet. How old is she? Some kids still wet the bed until they are 6 (or more for some). I wouldn't make her wear a pull-up if she didn't want to. I'd just take her a couple of times at night.
That's a toughie since she is sleeping through it. I would do as the pp stated. Limit her liquid intake 3 hours before bed and take her potty right before bed. If she is easy to get back to sleep, you can always get her up to go before you go to bed too.
Good luck!
Yes, I do limit her fluid intake, and I have tried taking her to the bathroom before we go to bed, but she is impossible to get to sit on the toilet. It is as if she's drunk or something, she's so out of it.
She just turned three. I just feel like we should follow her lead, since she wants to be in big girl underwear.
DD acts drunk, too. I just have to hold her still and say, "Pee" and she does.
It's getting more difficult for me to carry her since she's pretty much dead weight at the time, so I am making her walk after she goes (I hold onto her as she walks though). She goes right back to sleep.
Do you know when she's peeing? My DD was obviously do it in her first moments of conciousness in the morning, so if I wanted to catch it, I had to wake her up a little early to go.
I didn't want to do that for a variety of reasons, so I put her in pullups 'til she stayed dry (a couple weeks).
I just answered a question about this last night.

Annalise has been daytime potty trained for about a year and a half, and her diaper is wet every morning. She's just a heavy sleeper and doesn't wake up when she needs to go.
