Let's play a game...(CSA)

Help me identify all of my CSA share. I googled most of the things I didn't know but I can't figure out one item.

 Here's what I got:

strawberries
bunched carrots
cilantro
spinach
apple mint
bok choy
garlic flowers
red oak leaf lettuce
rapini (swiss chard)
baby beets
red chard

I have this and have no idea what it is:

Its what I thought, but nothing like that is listed. I googled everything on the list too...hmmm

  • Oh, okay I was confused.  I thought you had identified everything in the top pic and listed it all but were asking about the other stuff.  Lemme take another look.

The garlic flowers actually have flowers on them, those were easy to identify :) I think they're garlic scapes...weird they weren't listed though.

  • Just so you know, rapini are brocolli rabe, not chard.  According to google at least!

I figured that out too...the list said rabini or swiss chard so I figured they were the same, I think it means I got one or the other.

  • Garlic scapes :) They're delicious. Toss with olive oil, salt, & pepper and grill or roast. Kinda tough - I think you *can* remove the outermost layer somehow.

Tip - Steam or Stir Fry Garlic Tops
The garlic tops, called flowers or garlic scapes, are a gourmet delight! Steam them whole and serve with melted butter like asparagus. Cut them into short lengths to add to a stir fry. They have a delicate garlic flavour which gives a subtly different and delicious flavour to the sauce.
