Beaches

I know this keeps coming up, but since the situation is different everyday, I thought I'd ask: how are the beaches now? Any to stay away from?

I've been dying for some beach time, but I keep debating whether I should use the vacation time. I'm really considering it now, since it sounds like the beaches are still doing okay.

Any suggestions on somewhere to stay on a budget? Beach and/or housing-wise.

TIA!

Re: Beaches

  • Same thing as last time.  Basically you are discouraged from swimming in the water, but the beaches are fine.  Parking fees are waived and I know there are some great deals due to cancellations.  I always recommend VRBO, but you should be able to find good deals anywhere right now.

We flew over the beach on Friday, and the only oil we could see was a small patch of sheen close to Pensacola.  I know it changes daily, but this is a significant contrast to what some people are reporting.

  • My daughter's best friend is in Orange Beach right now and she said that the beach is beautiful and they (and most people) are swimming in the ocean.  She said there are quarter sized tar balls here and there, but it's not really bad at all.  We have decided to go to Sandestin as planned.  We will get there Thurs...week from today.  I hope all is still well then!  If not, we will just go to a water park and/or amusement park or something and hang out at the pool.
