Toddlers: 24 Months+

How important is the 2yr well-child visit?

Did your LO have one?

I called this week to schedule DS's (his bday is tomorrow) and they couldn't get me in until August 27th. Does a LO get any shots at 24mo that we'll be behind on? I can't remember.

When I commented on how late it was, the scheduler responded kind of snippily, "Well, we ARE really busy in the summer." Was I supposed to cross my legs until September? I can't help that he's a summer baby! :)

  • I'm pretty sure my pedi told us at DS's 2 yr appt that he wont need any shots until Kindergarten, if he's all up to date...

  • We went to ours yesterday.  It was a month late.  Not really a big deal.  We got one shot to finish up the HEP A.  He also had a blood draw to check Iron, I am not sure if that is normal though or because he was borderline at age 1.  I would think you can wait until August.
  • we did ours two months late. no shots for ds.

  • Our Dr. said the 18month shots were the last ones until kindergarden. I suspect the appointment will be to check weight, height, speech, hearing.  All the routine development stuff.
  • DD's well visits always end up being scheduled after the fact because she was on a delayed vaccine schedule.

Her 2 year visit isn't until the beginning of September, and the last that I was told, she has no shots and should be up to date.

  • Thanks! I'll stop griping about it and let him enjoy his summer :)

  • DS just had his 2 year old check-up and he got his Hep A shot and they checked his iron (finger prick) since it was low a few months ago.

  • At 18 months we were told that we would not need anymore shots, but when we went in last week we ended up getting one. I can't remember which one right now. I'll have to check later when I get home, but apparently there is one that previously covered 7 strains of whatever the immunization was for, but there is a new booster out that covers 13...so DD got that booster. As soon as I get home, I'll let you know which one.

  • It's the PCV 13 booster that was approved in February 2010.

    Here's a link about it:

  • It all depends on when you started the shots.  We started when she was born and our Peds said no more shots for awhile and that was at her 18 month appointment.  He said their 2 year is when they usually get their make up shots if they started later.

  • DS had his last week and got one shot.  His was 3 weeks late, his office is busy too.  They told me part of the backup is due to parents needing their kids to get a well-check to go to summer camp or go back to school in the fall.

  • DS pedi, requires you call 3 months ahead to schedule well visits.  I would just keep that in mind next time you need to schedule, at 3 years and forward.

Since it is only 2-3 months I would not worry about it, nothing he will be too behind on.

  • We had ours on Monday (two weeks late). We had the MMR because we had delayed it. Other than that it was height, weight, meeting milestones, here is a sticker and have a great day.

  • We didn't get any shots at her 2 year appt.  We were behind on them, but apparently we must have caught up.
