I asked last night during our tour of the hospital whether we could bring our own diapers in. I got the meconium lecture, and how tarry it was. I responded that by all accounts it washes right out. I didn't lie about that, did I?
Also, I should have included DH in this little plan because there was a whispered conversation between us about, "WHAT?! Why can't we wait until we get home?" He was a bit shell shocked. Oops.

It washes right out. I didn't have any trouble washing my meconium diapers. They didn't even stain and I didn't wash them for several days (I used all the ones that fit on the first day then didn't wash until he was 6 days old).
Most of the nurses were enthralled by them. They loved them.
we used sposies until her cord fell off, only because she had such a short rise, even the KL0's with the notch were too long.
But we'll be bring either cloth or our own sposies this time (maybe both, just in case of the rise issue again) because most hospitals here use pampers, and I refuse to let those touch my baby's butt.
It washed right out for us. I did a cold wash (instead of a rinse but honestly I don't think that was really necessary, I just did it to be safe) followed by the regular hot/cold cycle and they came out sparkling. No stains or anything. If you try to spray them off at the hospital, you will get discouraged because it seems like it's going to stick like glue - don't spray. Just throw them in the bag as is and wash them and it will come out just fine.
And if you decide to use disposables, I'd definitely bring your own. Most hospitals have deals with Pampers and those little drymax devils will be the only thing they have available.
I think bf poop stains way more than the meconium did for us.
Either way, sunning takes care of it.
