Hi ladies.
I'm just sitting here trying to figure out what we'll do if this third IVF is a BFN (negative this AM at 6dp5dt). IUIs are covered by my insurance, but IVF is not. So you can imagine what our debt looks like right now, after 3. I was just thinking, my tubes are open and we don't have MFI. Since I just had a lap in April, maybe it's worth a shot to do a couple of IUIs while we take a break from all the shots and payments.
But, would it be a waste? I can't decide what to steer towards next. I'm just about at the end of my rope.
TIA for any advice.
Re: Is it ridiculous to go back to IUIs after 3 failed IVFs?
I am still totally praying for a BFP for you this cycle.
But if it's not, then I don't think it can hurt to try a few IUIs.
Good luck hon
Unexplained Infertility
After two Clomid cycles, three injectable IUI cycles, two IVFs, two miscarriages, and one lap surgery, IVF #2 has brought us our little boy!
TTC #2
After months of being postponed or cancelled, FET #1.3 (Natural FET) brought us twin girls!
I'd defintiely try IUI.
I think someone on SAIF (sorry- can't remember who) had a few failed IVF's followed by a last ditch IUI which led to the BFP.
I don't think it's a waste at all. Even though I'm hoping you don't have to make this decision and have a BFP for this cycle, I think that going back to IUIs isn't a bad idea. Your insurance will be covering it. It may give you a chance to get out of some of the IVF debt and save for another IVF cycle down the road if you need/want it. But, you would still be cycling with IUIs while doing all of that.
I was just talking to DH about this. We got pg with both IUIs (but had early losses both times). If this IVF doesn't work, we really want to sit down with the doctor and discuss IUI vs IVF in my case.
GL with whatever you decide!
Twins born too early at 23 weeks due to incompetent cervix
FET #1, IUI #1, 2, 3, 4 - all BFN
IVF #3 BFP!!! IT'S A BOY! Born July 16th, 2011
FET #2 BFP! Due February 15, 2013
I don't have very good quality embies. For all 3 IVFs, there have been a total of 18 embryos (I think) and I've never made an "A" or "AA". The best we've had was BB with some fragmentation
I'm sorry for what you're going through! I don't know if I could go back to IUIs at this point. I think it would feel too much like going backwards. I definitely don't think there would be anything wrong with it, though!
Has your dr. recommended any further testing? It seems like you've had a reasonable number of embryos - do they think it could be an implantation issue or primarily egg/embryo quality?
I wish you the best!
IVF#1 Oct 2009 (CCRM) - BFN
IVF#2 March 2010 - Poor response/cancelled
DE IVF#1 Aug 2010 - BFN
DE IVF#2 Dec 2010 - Transferred 1, 2 frozen - BFP!
TTC#2 FET Jan 2013 - Transferred 1 - BFP!
I did an IUI after a failed IVF and 2 failed FETs. I figured we didn't have much to lose since it is much easier on the body then going through another IVF.
Hopefully this cycle will still be a success for you. But if it's not, and you are planning to take a break from another IVF cycle, I say go for the IUI's especially if your insurance pays for it. It is so much easier on your body and your wallet. Good luck to you on whichever path you choose!
