Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Cafe au lait spots?

Hey all -

Any other mothers out there whose LO's have cafe au lait spots?  My LO has 2 that he's had since birth and my pedi said that they would watch them but that she's not worried about them.

I OF COURSE can't stop worrying or (the horror!) googling.   UGH.

Anyone else?

Re: Cafe au lait spots?

  • Seriously? I haven't thought twice about my LO's... I have one on my right calf and on my back, so thought it was cute that LO has a cafe au lait colored spot on his back too and then a Kool Aid colored spot on his foot... I love them!

I never heard of them being something to worry about - guess I'll ask my pedi at his 9 months appt...

  • I believe they're nothing to worry about unless you have like 5 or more. I wouldn't worry about it.

My pedi said it's totally normal to have a couple.... which is why I posted this - to hear from others that have them too.

They can be associated with something really rare and I freaked myself out.  Totally irrational, because they're sooooo common in healthy people.

Thanks for sharing about you and your LO.  Up until 2 days ago I loved LO's birthmark!   This is a good reminder that I still should.  It makes him, him!

Exactly what my pedi said!  I'm just a worrier.... and I'm trying not to be.  So this is just what I was hoping to hear.

  • DD has one on her forehead.  It hasn't changed shape or size, so I'm not concerned.

  • My guy has 4 and then a really dark birthmark. You can barely see the 4 unless I point them out. Actually the pedi found them first. They look a bit like a very light bruise.  I'm just supposed to watch them. I try not to worry, although I do every now and then.
