Babies on the Brain

be honest with me (as I am transferred to the cancellation dept)

Does the name Silas Curtis sound horrible?

I am NOT asking if you like the name Silas.  I am just interested in whether the first and last name is too much of a mouthful.

( I am back on hold an hour into a call to Sirius and they want me to wait 7-10 days for them to issue a refund they supposedly started on June 2nd.)

  • IMO it is too much of a mouthful

  • I think it's a bit of a mouth full and I love the name Silas (even though you didn't ask Smile)

  • I don't think it's horrible, but it is a bit of a mouthful.

ETA: but what do I know?  Most of our family hated our name choice because his first and last name both have only one syllable.

  • I think it looks like more of a mouthful than it actually is once you say it

  • I knew it was, but wanted it not to be.  Oh well.

Cecil, Rupert, Simon, Marvin, Edgar, Stuart, Martin, Abner?

I love Solomon, but that is a bit much.

  • Mouthful-wise it think it is okay.  FWIW I like the name Silas.

  • ooooh.  I really like Simon

  • I will admit I don't know how to pronounce it, but if it rhymes my vote is no. I love Simon and think it sounds good with your last name.
  • Basil is another favorite, but I worry too many people would pronounce it as if he were an herb.
  • I think it is a mouthful but love Simon.

Out of these I like Simon, Edgar, Stuart and Martin. I think those would all go well with Curtis too.

The only reason I know how to pronounce it is b/c of the Da Vinci Code

  • I don't really like the way names sound if the first and last both end with the same letter, especially if they are the same length.  Sorry :(

ETA: SUPER love Simon Curtis.  Sounds like an intellectual hottie, you know - James Bond style.

You guys didn't read enough George Eliot.  "Silas Marner" is a great story of a miser whose money is stolen who comes across a small child whose mother has died.  He raises her and it opens his heart.

  • It's a bit to sing-song-y for me.

But I love the name Silas (due mainly to the character from Weeds!).

  • I like Silas but it does sound like there might be too many S's between the two names.

This.  But I do love your naming style.  What are your girl name choices?

  • I <3 Silas, but the sound of the names together sounds funny to me. I feel like Silas, because it's a very smooth sounding name should have something crisp after it. Mark is a crisp name, though I'm not crazy about Mark with Silas.

  • I just don't like the way both names end in the same kind of "as" and "is" sound.
