I have DD1 behind the driver seat & DD2 behind the passenger. This works well for me because if I need to I can reach DD2 to put her paci in. Also I can still hand DD1 things like her water cup or a book.
I'm putting DD behind the passenger seat, and #2 behind me. No real reason other than that's the way my close friend had it done when she went to get her seats installed. They instantly put them in that way without even consulting her.
DD1 behind driver, DD2 behind passenger. It gives the driver more space for their legs (DH is tall). Also, I had read at one point that if you get in an accident, it is more likely to be on the driver's side. While I obviously don't want either of my kids to get injured, I figure DD1 is sturdier and could handle an impact better than a newborn.
DD#1 is already behind the driver's seat (her convertible seat wasn't stable in the middle, our back seat has that 60/40 split) so I'm planning to put DD#2 behind the passenger seat.
DD is currently in the middle, but I am planning on moving her behind the passenger seat and put LO #2 behind the driver. That way I can get the baby out of the car first and then walk around and get DD. I don't want to worry about wear my toddler is, when getting the baby out of the car.
I put my son on the side closest to the door to the garage so I didn't have to lug the infant seat as far. If you are going to do outboard for both children both sides are equally safe statistically. If you are considering putting one in the middle, the recommendation is actually to put your older child in the middle if they are FF since RF provides a lot more side impact protection than FF does.
