I am in the process of weaning DS now and he will soon be on straight formula. I was hoping to hear from others on how often they give a bottle and how many ounces per bottle. I thought I read somewhere that they should be getting between 28-32 oz a day? Is that right? I am just curious if most people give an 8 ounce bottle 4x a day or 6 oz 5x a day or something completely different? I realize that each baby is different, but it does help me to hear what others are doing. Anything you can tell me about your daily breakdown would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Re: New to formula feeding and need some advice
kinda depends on your baby's schedule now. How many times does your LO nurse?
I give her 5, 6 oz bottles per day...she spits up if I give her 8 oz...too much at a time I guess.
DD usually has 4 or 5 bottles, of about 6-8 oz each. We make 8 oz bottles, and offer them when we think she is hungry (which is every 4ish hours or so). She eats what she wants. We can't force the whole 8 oz down.
In a 24 hour period, she drinks about 26-34 oz.
My baby still only takes 5oz bottles (at 9 months old) and she's around 50th percentile. She will have one 6oz bottle before bed, but during the day 6oz amount seems to be too much (she'll spit up). Here's what it looked like at 6 months:
around 7am- 5oz bottle (then she goes back to sleep until about 10:00am)
11am- cereal
1pm- 5oz bottle
5pm- 5oz bottle
7pm- cereal/veggies/fruit (one of these)
9pm- 6oz bottle and bedtime
