Babies: 6 - 9 Months

After thinking about this for a while... i have to ask... boob jobs?

Okay ... pls no flames.... pls! :-)

Just to give you some background - before geting pregnant with my precious baby I wore an A cup... while pregnant and breastfeeding I wore a C cup, and now that I've since stopped breastfeeding I barely fill my old A cups anymore! It's like i'm drained and they just sag and i'm probably a AA but haven't checked.

So... I'm thinking of getting a boob job. I'd probably still stay small since I have a small frame and wouldn't want to look completely different or anything... I just want to get to the point where I fit in clothes somewhat properly again without being completely flat.

Have any of you done this? I haven't started my research yet but here are my concerns:

1) How often do you need to get checkups?

2) What kind of anesthesia do you get during the surgery?

3) How long is the surgery and how long is recovery?

4) When you were pregnant and/or nursing - did they shift? Did you or will you need to get them readjusted?

5) And just for a point of reference - do you have any other plastic surgery?

I want to have more kids and I want to nurse my future babies too so I don't want to do anything that will jeapordize my ability to breastfeed or put me in a position where I need to automaticall go into surgery before or after getting pregnant again.

Thanks girls!! Pls pls pls... know this isn't and won't be an easy decision... It's just frustrating to have become so much smaller than I was (and I was tiny to begin with!)

  • No flames here, but why don't you just wait and have the boob job AFTER you are done having kids?  I am going to get mine lifted, but not until after my next and last child
  • Thanks girls! :-) Not an easy topic for me to talk about ...

At first i thought I'd wait but here's the thing... I want to have 2-3 more kids and would like to space them out 3-4 years each (I like how far apart my siblings and I are :-))

So...I'd have to wait 6 or more years to be able to fit in clothes again? :-( I'm not suer I can wait that long!

Im' small framed everywhere... except my hips... so I really really look crazy out of proportion right now! LOL I'm not sure I can wait 6 or more years and I don't want to rush into having more kids just for that.

  • I have no experience with boob jobs, but plan on getting one after I am done having kids.  No flames here!  I know you can still nurse your babies with one.  I think it has to be done a certain way or something, like under your muscle, not sure how right about that I am though!

  • i am with you! my hubby said he would gladly get me one after we were done having kids. you get a general with them I do know that. I have heard it is safe to go ahead and BF another kid after. i don't think they can guarentee they won't shift even withoug having another kid. a lady i work with had to get hers redone like a yr after to fix something. she did really well after. she did say the pain was pretty bad for a couple days but then was fine. i do know it depends how they do them as well. if you want a lift they cut your muscle which makes the pain worse. the thing i worry about is working in radiology i know how hard it is to still be able to fell lumps in your breast and to get your mammos they have to push back the implant and squeeze your normal tissue. which in my opinion sounds painful! the jury is still out for me!

If you want to nurse your future babies I would wait on any breast surgery.  Any trauma to your breast tissue can inhibit your ability to BF.  FWIW, I've had friends tell me their boobs deflated after they quit BFing, but were back to normal 6 months later.

Have any of you done this? I haven't started my research yet but here are my concerns:

    1) How often do you need to get checkups? Post surgery you get one a couple days after and then like a month later.

    2) What kind of anesthesia do you get during the surgery? All plastics is done under general anesthesia

    3) How long is the surgery and how long is recovery? I had a reduction and lift...so I'm not sure. The surgeries usually take a few hours (at least from our OR schedule, that's what they have blocked off).  Also, the recovery time is USUALLY a few weeks before you can lift anything.

    4) When you were pregnant and/or nursing - did they shift? Did you or will you need to get them readjusted? Just know that if/when you get pg again, you may not be able to nurse.

    5) And just for a point of reference - do you have any other plastic surgery? see above

  • I want to get one too, but I'm going to wait until we're done having kids. I don't want to risk anything. I hear you on not being able to fit in to clothes, though.

  • i have breast implants and am very happy with my results. i had the surgery done in june of 2005. feel free to pm me if you have specific questions!

    to answer your questions...

i forget exactly how many times i saw the doctor after the operation... i want to say 3 or 4 times. my doctor recommended coming in for yearly check ups but i never did.

    they use general anesthesia.

the surgery was less than an hour. i was out and about after 5 days :)

there has been no change in them. i am still nursing twice a day with no problems. i ebf for the first 6 months.

    no other surgery here!

  • 1) How often do you need to get checkups?

Just a few days after the surgery, 2 weeks, and a year post surgery.

    2) What kind of anesthesia do you get during the surgery?

    general anesthesia

    3) How long is the surgery and how long is recovery?

2 hours or less, recovery 6 weeks before you can work out, lift heavy objects, etc.  But you will be feeling better after 3 days or so...

    4) When you were pregnant and/or nursing - did they shift? Did you or will you need to get them readjusted?  I have been EBF and had no problems at all. (of course all surgeons will tell you there is a chance that anyone will have problems BF with our without surgery)  They haven't shifted but i think after I'm all said and done with having kids i will get them redone... I would suggest going under the muscle and getting silicone.  More natural look and feel.  Good luck with your decision!! You can always go in for a consult and get more info from there before you really decide.

    5) And just for a point of reference - do you have any other plastic surgery?

    No other surgery.

  • I just wanted to say I'm considering the same thing.  I'd rather have the next couple years to enjoy my body instead of constantly feeling uncomfortable in clothing.  Mine just look totally deflated and yucky, I'm now wearing super padded push-up bras and I've never done that before.  My plan is just to go have a consultation done and see what they say.  I'd rather nurse my next child but I honestly wouldn't be heartbroken if I couldn't for some reason.  If they suggest waiting, then I'll listen to their suggestion, but I'm considering having it done this winter if they think it's ok to go ahead.

  • I was considering the same thing.  I was a solid C before kids, went up to an F while nursing my 1st, back down to a C after him, up to a D about six mos after done nursing him, back to an F while nursing baby girl, and now- she just weaned last weekend- and I'm back at a D.

I guess what I'm saying is:  my boobs have done a lot of stretching and re-sizing.  I'm waiting at least a year after right now to see what they will do.  They are definitely National Geographic boobs right now but might change again as my body adjusts.... I'd wait til you are done with kids and see what happens.  I'm still considering if I end up with total pancakes.

  • My sister is having it done next week.  I'm going to wait and see how it goes for her, then I'll probably have it done myself.  I say, more power to ya!  Good luck!

  • I personally do not have breast implants, (actually the opposite, I had a breast reduction) but I have many friends that have implants and they all breast fed their babies without any problems. I was the one with the issues and could not breast feed due to low supply, but that is common when you have a reduction.
  • Wait until after you are done. I've heard boobs bounce back after breastfeeding!
