DS has started to have some major separation anxiety. He's fine if either DH or I are in the room, but if he's left alone for more than 30 seconds he starts to cry.
Yesterday, DH had to work late so I was alone with DS. I sat him on the floor by his favorite toy and ran into his room to grab laundry before putting him to bed. As soon as I got into his room, he started crying and wouldn't stop until I was back and picked him up. He's done this a few other times also.
Today, he did the same thing at daycare (which he's usually cool with). As soon as I headed down the hallway out of sight, he started crying. I felt cruel, but I just kept going. Didn't want to make things worse.
Anyone have any suggestions? Is this just a phase he'll grow out of? How do I make sure things don't get worse?
Re: Separation Anxiety
Ryan is kind of starting to touch on that now. If DH or I leave the room Ryan cries hysterically. After we're actually out of the room, he's fine.
There are some days he's just plain fussy for my mom or MIL when I'm at school and is a perfect angel as soon as I get home. Same for me sometimes, but is an angel when DH gets home from work!
I think they'll grow out of it. LO did that on Monday. DH keeps him the first half of the day. I kissed him, told him I loved him and walked up the steps...he FREAKED out. I ran back to the basement and picked him up, he was fine.
This sounds bad, but I felt so loved knowing he was crying for me, but I did feel bad for DH.
As far as with me and DH it's not getting better. She won't let anyone hold her but me and I cannot leave her on the floor to even walk to the kitchen without her freakin out! I have started to make a game of it and I will start waving bye-bye and she smiles....that buys me more time.....
Sometimes singing helps too....if I just keep singing as I go away from her she kinda stops crying and listens....
But with daycare she only did it for about a month! She has since stopped crying when I drop her off. But if I linger too long she gets weepy! So I try to make it fast! But I still make sure I say Bye and we do our waving routine again.....
