What do you do for exercise if you're doing IUI's? The nurse at my RE's office (who isn't my nurse and I don't trust what she tells me anyway) just said, "take it easy". Well what does that mean? I've started the Couch to 5k program (just completed week 1 today, but I will probably repeat it) and I definitely take it easy while I do that, but I mean my heart rate still gets up there...That's the point!
I realize that as it gets closer to the IUI's and my ovaries have some big follies it may not be comfortable to run at that point, but I'd like to know I don't have to just sit on my butt all the time for fear of messing something up.
Thanks.
Re: IUI ladies--How much/often do you work out?
Right after my first IUI the RE told me not to run. That is the only time that he mentioned anything about working out. I am typically a walker (which he knows) so that may be why.
I am interested to see other responses too!!
PS - Hello! I will respond more later too! I got you on FB!
I take a spinning class four times a week and a bodysculpt class two days.
My doctor told me after the first day or so after my IUI, I could go back to it without any problems.
Mentally though, I keep thinking that if it doesn't work, I know I'll wonder if that did something. It's ridiculous, I know that, but I can't seem to shake it. So...I've been sitting on my arse. I plan on going back to spinning tomorrow, but I have a heart rate monitor watch and I'll keep an eye on it.
My RE told me that I could keep exercising, but not too strenuously. He said to tone it down a little, run three miles instead of five, that kind of thing. He said that I shouldn't be gasping for breath or feel totally exhausted.
Can you talk to your regular nurse, just to ease your mind?
Good luck! Is the Couch to 5K going well?
My nurse said I can do anything, but to make sure that my heartrate stayed under 140. If it goes over 140, it will restrict the bloodflow to my uterus.
Good luck!
I usually exercise between 3-5 times a week. If I am getting close to O and I am having O pain I try to take it easy and just do some walking other than that I do what I want.
I also try to take it easy in the 2WW and do the eliptical or walk on the treadmill. I don't do any ab work during the 2WW but that may just be my own paranoia.
Now that it is summer I have found swimming is a great light impact workout.
I work out a lot. After my IUIs I tried to tone it down...no running, less resistance on the eliptical and lighter weights. My RE said that was fine.
With IVF I'm not supposed to do anything, which is really hard for me but will obviously be worth it.
This is me exactly.
Thank you for your replies! I will talk to my own RE and nurse more about it when I go in next week. Until then I'll just watch myself.
C25K is going well I guess! I made it through week one so that's something! Like I had mentioned though, I think I'm going to repeat week 1 before moving on to week 2. I really want to take it slow and build up my endurance well. I did notice today that at the end of the 60 seconds I felt like I could keep going without any trouble, so that's a good sign! I'm hoping I can keep it up!

It took 44 cycles, just over 3 years, 6 failed IUI's in MI, and 1 round of IVF at CCRM to get our BFP!

Although I haven't started doing IUI's yes this topic is something I've been struggling with as well. Since starting TTC back in May of last year I've gained 15 pounds because of my constant struggle with if exercise is ok or not. I normally work out 5-6 days and week and use to do hard core HITT and circuit training. I went back to doing it a 2 months ago and was advised by my dr. to cut out any high intensity. So now i'm constantly wondering what is and isn't ok. I think I will cut out any core work during the 2ww. Also that response about the nurse saying to keep your heart rate under 140 otherwise restricting blood flow to the uterus is interesting. I think I'm going to google on that and see what I come up with.
I plan to ask my RE about what exercise is ok at my first apt on Monday.
I know I'm late to this, but I definitely have an opinion to add. I am a former marathoner who spent most of last year "taking it easy" because I was afraid that running and working out was making me IF even though my bmi is fine. Little did I know what the real problems were. After 18+ months of TTC and 10 extra pounds I've decided to not put that aspect on hold any more. I run 3-5 times a week for 3-10 miles and if I'm close to O'ing I turn the mileage down a little because I can really be sore after. I'm also doing resistance boot camp type exercise class twice a week.
My RE said what I was doing was fine and that I only had to take it easy when I felt like I needed it. Last IUI I took it easy for 2 days after O/insem. and that did nothing for me, so I'm not sure I'll take the same precautions this month. I hope that helps.
