Goddard or KinderCare?

I have to choose between the two for DD come September. I'd appreciate any feedback about the quality of care at either. Thanks.

I think it can vary widely by facility.  I'd go with your gut as to which felt like a better fit for you and your family.

  • Not sure if this applies at the Goddard where you're located, but out here, they only take kids up to age 5.  This turned us off because at the age of 5, we'd be right back here trying to find another daycare for DD.
  • The kindercare franchises around here have a pretty bad reputation.  My friend tried to work at one since she couldn't find a teaching position.  She had 15 - 3 year olds by herself.  The director didn't care about the ratios or doing incident reports.  My nephew had a bad allergic reaction at his kindercare and the teacher didn't know how to use his epi pen.  It might be different around you though.  Our state has the inspection reports for day care facilities online for the public to see.

  • Our Kindercare is wonderful!  Super careful about ratios, great with the children, so nurturing.  I would definitely recommend it!  But for sure, visit the center and see what you think.
  • It definitely depends on the center itself. However, generalizing, as a teacher and having worked at a Kindercare in college, and then sent DD1 to Goddard this past year, Goddard's program and philosophy is by far superior to Kindercare. They're also much more expensive. But definitely check out the centers in your area and see where you feel more comfortable. Find out if the teachers are required to have degrees too. GL in your decision :)

Exactly.  I don't really think you can compare the two -- Goddard is generally a better learning center, but also much more expensive.

  • Having worked at Goddard for a short time through school I would pick them over anywhere. I loved working there and I always thought when I had a child they would go there. Unfortunately it is a little to expensive for us. Like a pp said they do only take children through 5 but a select few go higher. However by age 5 they should gbe going to school the next year so finding chidlcare at that point should not be an issue. If you can afford it I would not think twice about sending your lo to goddard!
  • My DD goes to Goddard, I HIGHLY recommend them! We actually looked at a KinderCare as well and felt like Goddard was superior to them by far. We have been very happy with them, DD has been going since she was 13 weeks.

Oh, and our Goddard age goes up to 6, so it must vary at different locations.
