Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Ears pierced ....

are you going to get them done? I was thinking to get them done for her first birthday. Or maybe wait till she wants them done herself and make a fun day of it?  What does everyone think?

Re: Ears pierced ....

  • I think it is completely you and your DH/SO's decision.

I got DD's ears pierced when she was 2.5 months old, because I remember the horror I remember of getting my ears pierced when I was 5 (and it was by choice, I asked to).  I didn't want her to go through that, I didn't want her to remember.

If she decides as she grows she doesn't like earrings, she just doesn't have to wear them.

  • Personally, I think babies are perfect enough as they are....I would never pierce my baby's ears.

I plan on waiting until my girls ask me, then making a whole Mommy-daughter day of it.....shopping, lunch etc.

That's what my Mom & I did.....and it was SUPER special.

  • I have a son, so this is a non-issue for us at this point, but I would wait, too.

I remember my mom taking me to get my ears pierced during the school lunch hour when I was five or six.  It was special.

  • I don't have a daughter, but personally I would wait. Like PP's said, I still remember the day I got my ears pierced, and it was a very special day that I shared with my mom.

  • Orginally I planned on waiting until DD was old enough to ask for them, but then I saw a baby with her ears pierced & decided to do it. She was around 3 months old when we got them done. As you can tell, I didn't feel strongly about the issue one way or another & neither did DH. If he had been really against it or something, we would have waited until she was older, but he thinks they are cute too.

We had DD's ears peirced at 2.5 months.  I can see waiting and letting your daughter ask for them as they get older, but being that I got my ears pierced more than once as I got older, it's still really painful!  Our doctor also said it would be better for us to do it at the time that we did instead of waiting until later because then she would play with them and he always sees kids with infected ears because they are done when they are older and keep touching them.

  • I was itty bitty when mine got pierced and most girls in the fam get theirs pierced super young... but I just couldn't do it! I know she won't remember it but... yeah, no. I'll let her make that decision on her own.

  • We got DD's ears pierced at 4 months.  I always knew that if I had a baby girl that I would get her ears pierced.  If she doesn't want to wear earrings when she is older, then she doesn't have to put them in.

    I think they look adorable

I think it should be my daughter's decision, not mine. They are her ears after all. My mom made it a special mother - daughter day when I got my ear pierced, and I think it would be fun to do the same.

  • I think it's a permanent change to the body, and that LO should make the decision for themself. I got mine done at 11 years old and it was a big deal for me.
  • Got DD's done at 4 months.  She did great, cried for a minute and then forgot.  Hasnt touched them since and they have healed great.  I think its a great idea to get them done when they are younger.  I got mine done at 8 yrs old and they got infected, had to re pierce 3 times until i just gave up.  Cant say i ever had that "special bond" feeling when i got my ears done with my mom.  It was just another day.
