Babies: 6 - 9 Months

blanket in a crib?

how many of you put a blanket in a crib?  i put one in there last night in hopes of LO sleeping better (he did) but husband is furious that i did.  he was watching the baby monitor all night making sure he didn't suffocate (he's a nut job).  I'm starting to feel crazy for putting one in there but i know its fine.  it's a small 12" x 12" soft blanket. just curious how many of you put things in the crib.

I feel like my husband is going to drive me crazy.

(than again, he was going crazy over a teddy bear being in the crib)

Re: blanket in a crib?

  • Both LO's have always had a blanket in the crib with them.  Once they can roll over pretty easily I don't even worry about it.  When they were too small to roll over I just made sure that the blanket was not a heavy fabric and some-what breathable.  And we don't have a video monitor.

  • I put a light weight blanket in her crib every night. No problems.

  • Tagan sleeps with a small light weight blanket - she has since birth
  • We use a light weight blanket for naps, but not at night.  Although he somehow manages to grab the blanket we drape over a bar on the back of the crib.  It is so far out of his reach, I'm not sure how he does it, but some mornings he's snuggling with it in his crib.
  • Daycare puts DD down for naps with a recieving blanket touching her face and covering her eyes a little bit.  Now if we put her down for naps, we do the same thing because she will go from wide awake to dead asleep in mintues.  At night she snuggles with it.  We aren't worried since she can easily roll around.
  • DD has slept with a blanket from day one. We swaddled in light cotton with a blanket from the waist down. Then sweaned from the swaddle with a blanket tucked into either side of the crib before she could roll. Once she started rolling, we tucked it into the bottom of the crib and it reached to waist height. She no longer sleeps with a blanket now that it's warmer.
  • I started giving DD a blanket during naptime just so I could check on her.. And then about a week ago, I started giving it to her at night too, and I still check on her a couple times before I go to bed just for peace of mind, but she does really good with it and I haven't had any issues.

My daughter will not sleep without her blankie touching her cheek. She has slept with it since we stopped swaddling her when she learned to roll at 4 months. I don't worry about it at all.

  • no blanket....went from being swaddled to sleep sack and now just footed pj's.  DS can roll around and I would rather him be too cold than too hot!!
  • My LO has being sleeping with a blanket since day one.
  • DS has been sleeping with a blanket since the beginning, and he's getting rather attached to it. It's a knit blanket that his great-grandma made for him, so we're not worried about it.
