So..we've narrowed down the great apartment search

::deeeeeep sigh::

We've narrowed down our apartment search from over 25 to simply 2. The first one is in Broad Ripple and the second being in Castleton. We have appointments to view both next weekend.

I've checked ratings and reviews on both apartments and there was a mixture of good and bad so, now I'm wondering what the crap? Should I believe the reviews or should I chalk it up to pissed off people? It seems that the reviews I read for several places was a mixture ::shrugs shoulders::

I don't know..this whole thing makes me nauseous. I don't want to live in a bad area. The place we live in now (in AL) is pretty rough and I don't want to live with that unsettling feeling for the next 5-ish years, you know?

Also - could you rec your pedi, please please please?

  • We see Heather Slaven with St. Vincent's.  Love her, but she's very no nonsense - younger, but a more traditional doctor.  Which is what we wanted.  But if you want someone warm and fuzzy, she's not for you.

    Broadripple has a ton of nightlife - lots of people love it.  I don't know if that's for you or not!  Depending on where you are, it could be loud pretty late.  But there are lots of places in the area that aren't.  And there is lots of culture.

    Castleton - everything is conveniently located, but there can be a lot of traffic.

    Safety wise, I'd probably say Castleton, but Broadripple is definitely more trendy.

  • Thanks so much for the pedi ref. I don't like warm fuzzy. I prefer a straight shooter.

    I've heard Broad Ripple is quite the place. I'm not a fan of nightlife but, all of the cafes and restaurants look nice, especially being walking distance. I do like the Castleton area, we go there alot of shop. Thanks so much.

  • Check this site to see what the crime is: https://imaps.indygov.org/cvc/

    I use this site often!  It only works for the city on Indy though.

  • We go to Dr Hannah with Riviera Pediatrics.  They have 2 offices, one is on the near west side of Indy and the other is on the north side (Carmel) at Clarian North hospital.  We've been extremely happy with him.  He's not the warm and fuzzy type either.  One of the things I've been most impressed about is that he has given us his home phone number as well as his cell # to call anytime (and we have!).  He also says that he would much rather be woken up at 2 AM with a question than for you to worry all night and that he would actually be mad at us if he found out we were worried all night and didn't call.  Not many Drs ask to be woken up just for your piece of mind!

  • I'd say that both Broad Ripple and Castleton have their pockets of good and bad, but nothing super bad that I know of.

    We go to Northpoint Peds, which is with the Community hospital system www.ecommunity.com

    They have 3 offices, one of them is in Castleton right by Community North hospital.

    Kara Gurchiek is our ped, she's the newest to the practice. A few other people on here go there/see her too.
