Is this bedding to "grown up" for my boys?

We're moving them in together this fall.  Law has requested something with orange. (pay no mind to the hideous headboard)

It's not my favorite, but I don't want to spend tons.  The one I loved at Target is apparently no longer available.

  • You could make it more kid friendly w/ accessories.  It would be fun in a construction or truck themed room.

  • I don't think it's too old, but I prefer this to "little boy" bedding. Just add a character pillow or stuffed animal and other little boy accessories to the room.  When they outgrow that stuff remove the accessories and keep the bedding if it's still in good shape.  If you don't love it though look around a little more, you have some time and I wouldn't get it if I didn't really like it.  My DS has the choc. brown bedding with cream stars on it from PBK but with his Thomas the Tank sitting on it, it brings it down to his level.

I don't think it is too grown up as long as they don't want a special theme or something. DS's nursery was orange and I love it. This is my favorite bedding with orange, if we had left him in his orange room I would have gotten it for his big boy bed. But we are saving the orange room for the new baby.

  • I love the comforter!  It would be cute with these.  A little more boy-ish.

  • Honestly, if I didn't love it, I wouldn't buy it, and since you have a bit of time, I'd keep looking for something else.  As pp said, it's easy to make bedding look "younger" with accessories, cute sheets, etc. - so I would buy a more grownup comforter you love (and plan to keep it awhile), spending a bit more with the intention of keeping it longer :)
  • I really like it! I second the idea of using a more handsome bedspread, then adding kid-friendly sheets/accessories to "boy" it up. I think that would look the nicest and last the longest.

  • My plan was to get some truck sheets to keep it more juvenile and fun.  And, cokt, that bedding is adorable!  Too bad I don't want to spend that much.  I'd love to get the madras bedding from PBK -- Target had a similar one and I loved it, but can't find it now.  Boo.
  • I like it, especially with the sheets that joseys posted!  I got DS the PBK madras bedding with car sheets for his bed (when he is ready).  I am not a big fan of most 'little boy' bedding...

We have the madras from PBK for DS#1 and I LOVE it  - can put ANYTHING with it - and they've reduced the price on it quite a bit (still expensive, but I'm figuring we'll use it for the entire time he's "at home" (sigh...)  One way to save 10% on it would be to set up a registry event ("boys new room"), set the date a few weeks out, then after the date passes, they'll send you a 10% off one-time completion discount code :)

  • Do you have a TJX store near you (Marshalls, TJ Maxx or Homegoods).  They carry some great bedding and their prices are always really good.  You may also be able to find some cute sheets or accessories that are a bit more boy.  Company kids also has some great kids bedding, I would look in the Tween area so it's not too babyish but that is another option.
  • Also, if you find something you love and it doesn't have any orange in it, but the colors would coordinate with orange then just add in orange sheets and maybe a toss pillow.
  • I think if it was a little brighter in color it would work more for the younger and grow with them, but that is just my opinion. I did the PBK madras for them and I feel like it will grow with them depending on the accessories in the room.
  • I was going to suggest the same sheets that josey did, the trucks from PBK.  You could definitely "little boy" it up, by putting cute artwork on the walls, and PBK has an adorable crane lamp that I am eyeing.  But I like the quilt, especially if he likes the orange!

I just bought the PBK madras bedding for DS #2's big boy room, and then I got the transportation sheets from PBK (new off eBay, since it's no longer available on the PBK site).  Also having valances made from extra pillowcases, to hang over panels from Target.  Got a cute painting from Target, and a rugby stripe lamp from the PBK outlet.  I've done his whole room for relatively cheap.  The madras quilt has gone down an additional $20 from time to time off it's regular sale price (I was able to get the twin quilt for $79), so you can get it for a good price if you keep your eye on it!
