Pregnant after a Loss

Audrey's Birth Story (long-ish, of course!)

As promised...

At my last check up on Thursday I was not quite 3cm.  We checked into the hospital at 7am on Friday.  The Dr broke my water at 7:30 and started the Pitocin drip.  The water breaking was painless but really gross.  It just leaked out all day.  I asked for a towel to lay on so I coudn't feel the constant dripping.  Gross!

The contractions were 2-3 minutes apart almost immediately, but they were managable pain-wise.  They started getting really intense around 11:30 so I asked for an epidural.  Instant relief!  But I was getting more of the meds on the left side so I couldn't move my leg without lifting it by hand.  It was annoying but so worth it.

By 2:30 I was approximately 9.5cm and there was just a little lip of my cervix left.  But we couldn't start pushing until it was completely gone.  Then my epidural started to wear off around 3:30 and it took them until after 4 to get the anesthesiologist back to give me a booster.  OUCH!

Finally about 5 they started prepping me to push.  We started at 5:10.  I got 3 pushes with each contraction and Audrey was born at 5:34pm.  I pushed for less than 25 minutes!  The whole thing seemed to go very quickly and very easily.  I had 3 small tears; 2 internal and 1 external.  Total labor time from water breaking to birth was 10 hours.  Not bad for a first baby.

The recovery hasn't been bad either.  If I'm on my feet for too long my lady bits swell and pull on the stitches which isn't fun, but that's about it.  My stomach has gone waaaay down and I'm back in a bunch of my regular clothes already.
