And what was your experience?
I had my first two at Women's and am not really happy with the level of care I received. I'd have to switch OBs since mine only delivers at Womens. I love her but I'm not sure I want to deliver another child at Womens.
Thanks.
Re: Where did you deliver?
BFP with no treatment!
BFP #2 5/27/12. EDD 2/1/13. m/c and D&C 6/21/12.
st lukes in the medical center
i had a great experience and they took great care of me when everything started going downhill. if we have another i'll definitely deliver there again.

Methodist, and had a great experience with an emergency c/s.
This baby will be delivered at St Lukes. Even though we're trying for a VBAC, in case I end up with another c/s, I prefer St Luke's policies. If the doc declares you healthy and the baby is doing fine, they don't even take the baby out of the OR.
Methodist has a one hour observation period after c/s, but if you're insistent, they're flexible on that.

I delivered at Methodist Sugar Land and had a great experience. We asked to change post partum rooms because ours was next to the nurses station and we heard everyone calling all hours of the night and we were moved immediately. The next morning the woman in charge of the floor came by to ask about my experience, to see how she could make it better, and to see that all issues were addressed.
The nurses were all fabulous and the food was pretty good too. ;-)
Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!
BFP #1 6/22/09 EDD: 3/2/10 DS born: 3/8/10
TTC #2 since Dec 2011

I delivered at Memorial Hermann Med Center and had an excellent experience overall. I love love love my OBGYN and this is where she delivers, so any future babies will also be delivered there .
My only complaint would be that I felt that some of the postpartum nurses could have been more supportive/helpful when it came to breast feeding.
So Tasty, So Yummy
I delivered at Women's and have since switched OBs and will be delivering at St. Luke's. The night nurses at Women's seemed to be terrible communicators with each other. They always passed the buck, "The next nurse will do this." "What? The nurse before me was supposed to do that." Not helpful. When I was ready to be discharged, a nurse told me she couldn't discharge me because she had to wait on a wheelchair. Mere seconds later, my mom returned with a wheelchair that was parked at the nurses' station, along with several others.
My experience, combined with a lack of trust in my previous OB, meant I was switching doctors and hospitals for this go round. We'll see how it goes!
I'd love to know who it was. Did her name start with an M or a T????
Nope, a V. I had my sorority big with me who is getting her PhD as a L&D nurse and teaches at UT so I didn't care too much but if she wasn't there, I would have smacked the nurse that night. She was sweet but a talker and I just didn't want to chat during contractions....
FWIW, I regularly work at Methodist (med center), Methodist Willowbrook and St Joseph. I've had patients with issues at all of them, and patients without issues at all as well. The experience is about the same no matter what major hospital you choose in Houston....sometimes it just takes one person to color the experience in a good or bad way. The Methodist / Memorial Hermann / St Luke systems are all pretty equivalent. Each facility has its own quirks.
The most important thing (besides trusting your OB) is communicating with the staff. You have to be your own advocate. Nurses and support staff can be busy and overwhelmed. Sometimes (hopefully rarely) they are just lazy. If you aren't satisfied with an aspect of your care, tell somebody (the charge nurse, the house supervisor, your OB). If they don't know there is a problem, they cannot fix it. I am always grateful when a patient tells me about a bad experience; that is the only way I can go through my channels to help fix it for future patients.
A night nurse named V. Hhmmm I don't know them so well but I think there's only one V. Sorry she was such a chatty one. Some of the day nurses are pretty chatty too.
Yes, I get that. And we did speak up. Especially the 2nd time. I guess I just feel like two strikes, you know? I can communicate with my OB but she can't do much about the nursing staff at Womens. I think when I go in for my annual I'll tell her my concerns and feel her out. If I'm still not comfortable I'm going to consider Methodist & St. Luke's.
I didn't read your 2nd post. So that wasn't directed at you whatsoever. It was more of a general public service announcement from someone who works in medicine. Sorry you had crappy experiences.
same here. I couldn't have asked for better delivery and recoveries.
#1 - Memorial Hermann, Katy
#2 - Methodist, Willowbrook
Both scheduled c-sections, both wonderful expriences
I know which one you are talking about. When we checked in, she was our nurse, but then they called in an off-duty nurse because they were so busy. V was the head nurse that night.
