NTR: Does anyone take a fish oil supplement?

I've tried them in the past, but I always burp it up throughout the day.  Gross.  But maybe there are new ones out there to try.

My DH suggested it because I'm having some joint tenderness issues after starting running (very slowly) again.

  • I've taken them for years. They do make them in a form that's supposed to help with the fish burps, although I've never needed those. For joint tenderness, though, shouldn't you be taking glucosamine? I've never heard of fish oil helping joints.

I agree with this. I work at a clinic and we suggest glucosamine chondroitin (sp?) for joint care more so than fish oil. Plus fish oil you're supposed to take 2-3 times a day for it to even work- and that's a lot of fish burps!

  • I take them.  Can't remember where I heard this, but I was told to take them first thing in the morning with orange juice to avoid fish burp.  It's been working for me.  Good luck!

  • Fish oil is supposed to help reduce wear and tear on your joints versus glucosamine and chondroitin that help repair them.

Thanks for the suggestions...I'll try the juice and try to find the ones that help with the burps. :)

  • Yep, every day.  Look for ones that are enteric coated.  They aren't always called that on the label, but you can ask at GNC if you have one near you or even look at Target and Costco.  They have a thicker coating so that they don't break down until they are further into your digestive system, helping you avoid the fish burps.

  • My DH takes them everyday.  He buys the coated ones from Costco and hasn't had any trouble.
  • I take them every day. I take them at night before bed and never have fish burp issues
