If you have a playroom...

How often do you really use it? Also, are you a working mom or a stay-at-home mom?

I'm trying to decide whether we need a dedicated room for the toys or if I can stand living with them scattered throughout the downstairs like they are at the moment. Thanks!

Re: If you have a playroom...

  • I have a dedicated playroom downstairs; it is "supposed" to be the formal living room.  I had a gate installed in the opening so the kids can't get out.  We have used it every day that we've lived here (close to 1 year now).  It's awesome!!!

Upstairs, we have a combo family room/playroom with their other toys in it.  It's more adult with furniture and stuff in there but still lots of toys.

I like them having a room that it "theirs" that they can play in and do what they want.  Their bedroom is upstairs so they don't play in there.

    I'm a SAHM.

  • I SAH and we have a playroom AND toys scattered all over. The main thing I love the playroom for is having a place for big things... play kitchen, play tent, activity center, etc. Some weeks we use it every day, others we'll use it once.

We live in a 3 bedroom and I've been trying to decide if we will put DD2 in DD1's room and keep the playroom or give them each their own room and split the big toys between the two rooms. Right now I'm leaning toward keeping the playroom.

  • Our finished basement is our play room. We just started using it as a playroom about 6 weeks ago. I love it. I am a working Mom but 4 days a week. We use it most everyday. I love it on the wekend when it is my morning to sleep in. DH & DS will be in the basement and I can't heat a thing. I also love that the toys stay down there. I can leave everything out and not be bothered. When it was in our living space I was constantly picking up toys.

  • We have a room designated for the playroom, because it was just sitting there empty.  I had been debating what to use it for, because I wasn't sureI wanted to invest the time and money into a guest room if I was going to eventually want to turn it into a nursery.  So we have most of DD's big toy items in there and I'm really happy with it.  DD will probably be sad one day when she has to move out, but for now we are enjoying it.  We use it a lot.  It is right around the corner from our kitchen, so when I am cleaning up/cooking etc she just heads in there and plays.  And I am a working mom, but on summer break.

  • We have a playroom and I love it. It is just off of the kitchen and family room so it is still near the center of activity in our house (bedrooms are all upstairs). I work from home and our nanny spends a good portion of the day with Colin in his playroom. He does bring toys out into the living area, but at least the majority of the toys stay in the playroom and it gives me somewhere to put everything at the end of the day. It's like a really cute closet. lol
  • we have a play nook in our family room. right now I am unemployed but I guess I would be considered a working mom. DS uses it every day.

  • My girls use is daily for hours...it's in the finished basement.  They are older 3 & 5 & have used it that much for about a year.  It's totally worth it for me--I SAH & we have a ton of toys.
