Potty Training

3 day PT: Day 2 - Shoot Me!

I'm so glad there's a PT board now!

I'm Marie, I don't post much on the toddler boards, I'm usually on the Nov Moms board, but wanted to see what others were doing for PTing.  DD is 21 months and we started the 3 day method yesterday.  I knew it was going to be a lot of work, but I'm starting to doubt that it will work for us.  She still won't tell me she needs to go and even when she does get some pee in the potty she won't empty her bladder all the way.  So no sooner do we get new panties on, then she's having another accident!

Someone tell me this gets better and it can really happen in just 3 days!

I didn't do the 3 day PT method (but it was kinda similar) and my son was 17 months when he did it.  Yes, I can say everyday we wanted to give up.  But we figured if he was having more success than accidents it was a good day.  Day 3 it really clicked and by day 7 we were accident (including spots) free for daytime and naps.  It took 2 months to be nightime.  I also think it took him until day 5 to tell us (but granted at this young age they are never going to verbally tell you all the time- they're so on the go, you just need to watch the signs).  Hang in there!

Yes it can happen in 3 days.

No, it won't happen if your DD isn't ready.

FWIW, I had one failed 3 Day and recently tried again with MUCH greater success.  This time worked for the most part (have to undo some pullups training though).  But keep at it.  It's hard but worth it.

  • If you're on Day 2 already, I'd complete the 3 days. Some kids really do take 3 days to figure it out and have it click.

There's a possibility DD isn't ready as PP suggested. Have you tried implementing a reward system to encourage successful potties and silently discourage accidents?

My DS loves putting stickers on things so we made a sticker chart and he only got to put one sticker up for every potty that was in the toilet. Even if your DD has you running to the toilet 50 times a day for piddles, it's better than accidents in her pants.

I really hope it clicks soon, for you sanity. :) Good Luck
