Hey Girls!
We just spent the week in Ocean Isle NC with DH's family, 21 of us rented a big house- it was fabulous! Since it was only about 4 hours from my parents in Hilton Head, myself and the boys came down here for another week and DH went back home....so far, it's been far from relaxing.....
~ When DH got home, our basement was completely flooded and saturated with water from the apparent monsoon rains we had. My poor DH has been frantic trying to save what he can, and contact insurance, restoration places etc. Our carpet is gone and has been removed, our loveseat and chair, linens, Jack's train table, and many toys were ruined because mold had began to grow. ( we have no idea which day it happened so it was sitting there for a few days since we were OOT) I am praying that is where the mold stops. I just wish I was there to help DH, he is so stressed out.
~ My poor Dad and Step Mom are trying to be nice, but you can tell they are so overhwhelmed having us here. Step mom has no kids, and I don;t think she understands how important naps, schedules, feeding on time, etc. I feel like I am constantly correcting her and trying to explain it. She seems to frustrated with the mess and just the noise..... I feel bad for her, and feel bad for us too. We're starting to get that "awkward" vibe around here and it sucks, we have 5 more days.
~ PS. Today, I went to the store, and came back and she had given Sawyer FRUIT LOOPS and APPLE CIDER in his sippy?!!?! Gahhhhhh!!!!
I am goingt o try to have a good time, It is so beautiful here, I just needed to vent- and you girls are good listeners!!
Re: Hello from vacation, and I need to vent
Is there any way you can cut the trip short? Dunno if thats what you wanna do but I hate having that awkward vibe--and 5 days can seem like FOREVER if things arent going smoothly
You could always use the flooded basement as an excuse for needing to leave earlier than planned!
I was thinking this too.... or just give it a day or so to get into a routine. It's a big adjustment!

Geesh! I hate to hear about your home. That really stinks. Is the drywall ruined too?
Fruit Loops? Looks like someone's trying to butter up her grandkids!
I hope despite the discomfort of the situation and your worries of home, you can settle in and relax these next few days. Unfortunatley, it sounds like you won't feel comfortable leaving your kids to have some you-time though. Enjoy the sun and sand and I hope your house is on the mend by the time you come back home.
Take care!
First, house = your restoration company should be certified in mold remediation and likely your insurance company won't pay them unless they are. If they aren't, call Mike and 513-604-6155 and tell him you are my friend and that he needs to give you the royal treatment and make sure everything is safe for your kiddos. The restoration company should be doing most of the work and not having your husband do it.
Second, sending big hugs your way; hopefully she will either get the swing of things or just chill out.
Try and have some fun!
Oh no - your house. I'm so sorry that happened. I keep thinking about all those books on your shelves. Were they ruined?
As far as Hilton Head, I would either check into a hotel and stay the rest of the vacation or head home early. Might be easier.
Good luck and hang in there! I will be thinking about you!
