How many should I expect to use each cycle (luteal phase of twelve days)?
How many dye tests to digitals should I buy? Which brands and from where? I am an internet girl who will likely buy in bulk. The dollar store is 15 minutes away in a direction I would not otherwise drive but if that is the way to go, I will.
Re: talk to me about pregnancy tests
I bought 5 dollar store tests. One cycle I took 2 and they were both negative. The next cycle I took one at 7dpo and it was a really faint positive.
I also preferred not having them in the house because it was less tempting to test early if I had to go out and buy them.
go to amazon and order a bunch.. or just don't keep any in the house so you HAVE to go get them.. if you think you will constantly pee on things my advice is to not keep them in the house.
personally, i wouldn't buy a digital until i am almost sure so you don't waste the money.
I prefer First Response Early Response or whatever the 2nd R stands for, but I didn't use one with Jillian until I had a line on an internet cheapie. FYI, they're about $20 for a box of three in the city, but they're $10 for a box of three at the Target in Everett.
Technically, you won't need any tests unless your period's late, but if you want to test early, the sky is kind of the limit in how many you could use. I think it would be a waste if it's just too early, so I would try to hold off, but on the other hand, I don't always practice what I preach.

This is where I bought a bunch when I was TTC. I tried to have some self control when testing which meant 2-3 tests per cycle but these would be the dye tests (those with better self control would probably say 0-1 per cycle). I had 2-3 digitals in case I got a line to confirm.
The answer to this is directly related to how much patience you have :-)
My LP was 12 days also, so I decided to wait until 13dpo, since I only saw it once ever in almost a year of charting. If you want to test early, that's up to you, but I say don't do it! Obviously I was lucky and got KU the first cycle trying, but I only used 2 tests. I would have kept POAS every day if DH didn't forbid me from buying more tests. He didn't even get why I used the second one in the pack!
I rarely poas, maybe 4 tests in all that time ttc. I wouldn't test until I was a few days past my longest LP and I usually ended up not testing.
So all of that said, my answer is whatever brand you chose or what have you - don't poas too often anyway
GC - First Response Early Result, Rapid result, or one-step?
I will guess that 3-5 regular plus a digital will suffice for each cycle. (I of course will be cool and controlled and won't be tempted to test early. But I will be under extreme pressure from Wifie.)

In the beginning I bought a bunch. I think I had like 3 different kinds in the house at one point. Then most of them expired because it was taking a while.
After that I didn't buy any at all until I knew I needed them. Saved me lots of money and lots of peeing (and a little sanity).

I usually only bought 5 dollar store tests at a time. I used at least one a cycle. The only frer's I bought was when I thought I saw a line on the dollar store. The only digitals--when I thought I saw a line on the frer.
Words of advice--
If you use frer's, look at the instruction booklet, they have coupons on them.
Run away from blue line tests.
If you think you'll doubt the negative result on dollar store tests or internet cheapies, don't get them. It's not saving money if you go out and buy frer's anyways.
