I have to start off by saying my SIL is a great parent. This is just something weird I dont understand.
My niece has a very pretty first name but they NEVER , never never, call her it. They always call her by her nickname which is Kiwi. Its super cute, but I wonder when she goes to school if everyone is going to have to to call her that b/c she wont have heard her first name very often.
WDYT? I mean really theres no harm in calling her by her nickname...I just was wondering if its more common than I think? We call DS Bunny but we try to use his real name more often than not.
Do you always use a nickname or do u try to use your LO's real name most of the time ?
Re: What do u use more often - Nickname or real name ?
Proud Mama to Mickey (12.03.09) and Nemo (06.06.13)
See , but that makes sense to me. Lillian / Lilly. My nieces name has nothing to do with KIWI LOL I just worry shes going to go to pre-school and they're going to have to call her Kiwi !
This.
Thats what we call kai! We call him Kiwi! We do make a point of calling him Kai at least some.... but Kiwi is so cute on him that it kind of stuck!
I call DS by nicknames the majority of the time -- munchkin, pumpkin, little man, stinker winkers, etc. But I've started using his name more frequently in the last few weeks or so.
For us it is about 50/50, but he has a million and one nicknames. He turns his head when we say his name, so I believe that he knows what his real name is.
I agree that it is kind of weird that your SIL NEVER calls her LO by their name, but maybe she doesn't really like the name, but named him/her out of obligation. I am not sure, since I don't know the entire situation.
