39ish weekers with scheduled inductions - why?

I have seen a handful of posts about scheduled inductions from gals who aren't yet past their due dates.  Will those of you who are going this route post the reason for your inductions?

  • This MIGHT get ugly.

agreed.  OP I would post why  you want to know.  Is it because your OB just  suggested you schedule one?  Do you think you need to or should?  Do you just want to know the reasons why one might schedule an induction before EDD?

  • I am not trying to cause debate - my doc is talking about it for low platelets, and I just want to get a sense of how serious is serious.  And it seems like so many people post an announcement, but don't mention why.

There can be a lot of reasons: gestational diabetes, pre-e, a large baby, water breaking early, etc.

  • I have a scheduled c/s at 39w if I make it...I have complete placenta previa and have for the last 3 months.

My first 2 were vaginal births, induced at 39weeks because they were measuring large and my dr was oK with it..They ended up being 8.9 and 8.10...super smooth induction..pit/epi, back home within 48hrs..no drama or trauma...excellent experience and I wish I could do it that way a 3rd time..but alas, it shall be a c/s for me this time.

  • I'm scheduled for an induction on Friday- I will be 38w 5days. I am doing it because my husband has cancer and is in active treatement- he's got another treatment scheduled for the following Monday, and he's still sleeping off the one from a week ago. If we induce then the chance of him actually being able to BE there for the birth, plus with all the medical drama we've gone through the past few months, it just makes sense. Also, we've got 2 other kids to have looked after, and I've got to co-ordinate so my Mom can be there to be my support person.

I'm pretty sure everyone has their reasons and they're all different- but if their Doc agrees to it (both of mine are totally on board, given our situation) then that's all that matters, IMHO.

  • I was induced at 38 weeks due to a prematurely aging placenta that cause my LO to be diagnosed with poor fetal growth.  The pregnancy had stopped progressing and they had to induce right away.

I would rather not be induced this time around, but if a medical reason came up and the baby or I needed it again, I would obviously do it without hesitation.

  • I'll get induced at 37.5 weeks because of a blood clotting disorder.  My OB doesn't like to go late due to placental breakdown and since I'm on a certain type of blood thinner we need to control the timing of the birth.

Last time, it worked out great, and ds was still 7.7 lbs. at 37 weeks (ds 1 was 9.9 at full term!), so I'm kind of selfishly glad about the induction as well.  Ha!

  • My induction is scheduled for Monday evening. I will be 40 weeks on Saturday.

We are having an induction to make sure my father in law gets to see the baby before he passes away, and to allow my husband to get up and visit with his father without missing the birth of our son here.

Blessed with 2 amazing little boys. One grew in my tummy and the other my heart.

  • The technical term for me is "rapid delivery"

I had my DD very quickly and my OB anticipates this kiddo coming faster. My hospital is also an hour away and my doctor is concerned that I won't make it to the hospital in time and deliver in the car instead. I didn't want an induction, but I've adjusted my thinking and accepted that it's the right thing to do.
