3rd Trimester

36-ish weekers...crampy?

I've been having these sensations lately, like menstrual cramps accompanied by belly tightening. I talked to my midwife about it and asked if they were BH (mine have always been painless) or prelabor contractions, or what. She basically said that they are my body getting ready for labor and that it's nothing to be concerned about until they're timeable.

OK. Fine. But they hurt! Am I alone here or are you guys cramping at all?

  • Me!  I am having this!  My mother SWEARS I will be in labor this week, but I'm pretty sure I'll be hanging around until my due date.  They are super uncomfortable, but not timeable or anything.

I've been having cramping for a few weeks now occasionally, usually not any worse than period cramps. My midwife said the same thing about not worrying.. just to call if I have more than 4-5 cramps in an hour.

  • I have them too, but the doctor checked me and everything is still closed. She said they are perfectly normal too.
  • I've been having cramping for the last three weeks, however I am now experiencing them in a more intense manner. When they first began my midwife gave me medication to stop the cramping. However my last day on the medication was yesterday and for the last few fays they have been more consistent. I am going to watch and see what happens. I am not sure how you ladies feel but I AM READY! Good luck to all. If something feels weird call the midwife : )
  • Yes, I feel like I am on my period with all the cramping
  • same here mine are so strong they make me cry. It is difficult for me to turn sides during the night I scream from the pain. My doc two weeks ago gave me Tylenol w/ Codine I've used it a few times when the pain has been very extreme. My doctor hasn't told me I will soon be in labor she says it's normal and there is little that can be done about the pain.

YES! Today I've had intense cramping that feels like gas pain circulating from my lower back around to the front. Nothing helps. I've tried drinking water, laying down, walking and yoga stretches. It feels constant and I've tried taking Immodium. I think it is just the baby dropping down and putting extra pressure on me.

  • About 2 nights ago I had this cramping under the bump. Nothing timeable. But it was a non-stop cramp for about 45 mins. The oddest thing!! Walking, moving, etc. wouldn't stop the pain.
  • For the last couple of days I've been having sudden pains at the very bottom of my abdomen (like right where it starts to poke out). They aren't like menstrual cramps though, it gets really tight (only right there) and it's more of a sharp pain than a cramp, every time it's happened it actually stops me dead in my tracks. I literally can't walk and have to bend at the waist and just stand there until it goes away. I know it's probably stupid but I have no idea if it's contractions or what... I thought contractions made your belly tight all over, not just at the bottom, plus I didn't think they were painful this early on.

  • Sounds like contractions to me.  The tightening around the belly is a dead give away.  I agree - your body is just kicking things into gear and flexing the muscles.  So close!
