Thoughts on Teagan?

We are leaning towards the name Teagan for our baby girl. What are your thoughts? I like names that not everyone has and I don't know any Teagans. If you dislike the name, what are your reasons? Thanks in advance!

Re: Thoughts on Teagan?

  • I don't like it at all. In my opinion, it is too similar to "Keagen" to be used as a girl's name; there is nothing even remotely feminine about it.

  • I don't like it.  It doesn't sound feminine to me.
  • I'm not a fan, but people i've known with the name make or break it for me. I've only known one, and she sure didn't leave a good impression with me for that name ;) I think that I might like it if it weren't for her...but i can't get over the ick impression in my head!

This is exactly what I was about to type.

I also just don't like the way it sounds. I don't have a further explanation - it just doesn't sound pretty.

  • I like it, mostly because I met a Teagan in college and liked her.  She pronounced her name "tay-gan" though.  Not sure if you're pronouncing it "tee-gan." Either way I like it, but personally wouldn't use it because it isn't feminine enough for my tastes.

  • Honestly, all I can think of is the crack whor* on that show intervention named Teagan.

It sounds like a little kid name to me. I can't imagine a grown up Teagan.

  • Sorry, I don't like it.
  • I LOVE the name Teagan...... for a boy. I have seen multiple people using it on here for girls and I don't quite grasp it being a girl name.

  • I like it. We have a family member who named thier daughter Teagan....
  • I love the name Teagan for a girl.  It is our Number one choice for our baby girl.  I will probably use a very girly middle name.  I also have only met girls named Teagan.

I think this is a fabulous name.  This is my 8 year old daughter's name and we have gotten so many compliments on it throughout the years.  Now I think it is too girly for a boy.  It does mean "pretty" in Welsh, which gives the name quite a feminine meaning.  Even if it doesn't sound as feminine as some others have mentioned why does it have to be?  A name doesn't define as to whether or not someone is feminine.  My daughter is quite girly, but strong and independent.  Teagan fits her perfectly.
  • i like both teagan and keagan for a girl. i think they both sound cute yet preppy and elegant. i think a cool girl could pull them off nicely.
  • Honestly, I went to school with a girl who became a porn star and her stage name is Teagan...so I personally hate it.  Sorry, but you asked.  If it were me, I would want to know :- /
  • I only dislike it for a girl because I know a boy named Taegan (pronounced Tay-gan).

  • I know 2 toddler girls named Teagan (Tee-gan).  NMS- I think it sounds "harsh"
  • I really like it and it was on my short list until DD's birth. I brought it up in this board and got flamed hardcore- even though I spelled it traditionally. ;) GL!

  • I don't like it either - not feminine, not pretty.

  • I'm not a fan of the name. I knew one girl with the name Teagan and she was made fun of very harshly in high school. That also could have something to do with her ..iffy.. personality.... but they took it out on her name ha ha.
  • Personally, I really like the name...I mentioned it to my mom today, and she asked if it was a boy's or girl's name...I thought that was kind of funny.

  • The only reason I'm not a fan is that I didn't know if it was for a boy or girl.
  • It's too trendy for my taste.  It doesn't strike me as particularly feminine and it doesn't shorten particularly well.

I don't personally know a Teagan, but the Teagan I do know of doesn't exactly have the most intelligent parents, so that may be skewing my view a little bit!  Really, it's not an awful name, but it's NMS.

  • You did ask for opinions, and on this board there are very specific styles most of the time...but I would say that if you love that name, use it.  It is YOUR child and you get to make the final decision.

I like Teagan, mainly because it's not another Olivia, Abigail, Claire/Clara, Emma, Eva/Ava, etc...

100% agreed! It seems most posters on this board like to go with more traditional names (not that there's anything wrong with that! But just keep that in mind when reading through the responses!) I love Teagan for a girl.  In fact, thats what we're planning on naming our baby. I looked the name up on a certain website (can't remember the name....sorry!) and it said it is overwhelmingly a girl name! Also, it means "pretty."  So definitely girly!

It means "beautiful" in Welsh.  That's why it's a girls name.  Naming a boy Teagan would be like naming a boy Belle which means beautiful in French.

I think it's cute for a little girl.  If you like it, I say go for it!

  • Thanks for the honest opinions! I do realize that everyone has a different style when it comes to names. I typically don't like the traditional or "old fashioned" names that I've noticed most people on the board prefer so I expected most people would respond negatively to Teagan. Luckily, I don't watch Intervention so I don't relate the name to the crack whor* on there and I don't know any porn stars so the name has no bad affiliations for me. I do like the name and to me it doesn't sound harsh or masculine at all. Just wanted to get some feedback from others. Thanks again.

  • It's one of our top two names for a little girl...I absolutely adore it.  To me, it is way too feminine for a boy!
