1st Trimester

How do you keep from worrying so much in 1st Tri?

I keep telling myself, "As long as I am not bleeding, everything is okay" but I still cannot help but worry.  If I am not feeling any symptoms I get worried... If I start to cramp I get worried that it's too much cramping and something must be wrong.  I just can't wait for my 1st appointment.. but it's not until 8w a whole month away!  How can I keep from going crazy in that time?

  • I thought I would be more worried considering I have many, many close friends that have had problems.

But, as harsh or rude as this may sound, I just repeat what my doctor told me -- if it's a "good" pregnancy, there's not much you can do to lose it.  If there is something wrong, then there's not much you can do to keep it.

And I remind myself that stressing isn't good for me or Harpie.

  • For me its all about staying positive - the odds are greatly in your favor for having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. There is nothing you can do to prevent something from happening, so no sense in worrying over every little twinge or lack of symptom (they come and go, its perfectly normal). Just try to enjoy it, as hard as that may be - but it makes time go a lot faster in my experience :) Good luck!
  • It inevitable that women worry. I'm just like you lol. But try to look at all the positives and focus on being healthy.
  • I don't really keep myself from worrying. I worry too, along with everyone else. It is a normal part of pregnancy. It does help to think that there is nothing you can do if you lose the baby, and the odds are in your favor to have a healthy pregnancy.

    I couldn't agree more.

  • I know its really hard specially when you read a pregnancy book and one of the first chapters can tell you about complications that could happen :(

But for me I just picture my mom who keeps telling me not to worry how other girls pregnancy's are going... everyones different. Yes we all are a good benchmark but thats it. She keeps telling me to think positive and dont think negative... And if I dont get that tired or morning sickness.... then thats fine and consider myself lucky!

  • Because at the end of the day, your worrying doesn't stop at the end of the first trimester, 2nd, 3rd, birth, at a year old, etc.  You see where I am going with this....

You have to look at the parent you want to be, and to start off on the "right" foot, I think (IMO) it's best to try to keep worries controlled.  For example, god forbid you have had previous miscarriage(s), I think you are more understandably inclined to be worried and nervous... but if you have a healthy pregnancy thus far you need to appreciate it and not harp about everything that could go wrong.

Just let your body make this baby-- and help it the best you can (in your control) not drinking, not smoking, eating right, going for prenatal vists, taking vitamins, watching your weight gain.... do what you can -- and realize not everything is in your hands.

  • For me, keeping a journal helps a lot.  Writing all my fears down in there so they don't eat me up inside.

  • For me, I lean on my faith.  I've been through a mc already and it was the hardest thing my husband and I have dealt with.  But, I rely on God's promises for me.  There's a passage I quote when worry comes... Deuteronomy 28:4 NIV "The fruit of your womb will be blessed."  That gives me the strength and comfort to move through the moment of worry.  When worry rears it's ugly head again, I continue to remind myself.  Good luck!

  • Don't worry... really!   I know it seems such a long time away, but enjoy this time.   Unless you have significant bleeding, bad craming (not like period cramps) then you're OK!   Focus on the positives and keep yourself busy, but take time to relax.  Enjoy, because it does go fast!

  • I have had 2 losses and I know how hard it is not to worry.

I just try to remember that if I am no cramping/bleeding then I know that more than likely everything is okay.. Yes I still worry but I don't let it be on my mind all the time.

I just try to keep busy with other things and thank God for all the yucky symptoms I have.

  • I think it's normal to worry some, but worrying too much is never good for you, or for the baby.

Remember that you will have cramping and other "strange feelings", as your body is going through an incredible amount of change.

I would recommend going to a bookstore and buying "Your Pregnancy, Week by Week".  That book has really helped me through everything, and I enjoy reading the weekly chapter.  :)

     HTH!  Relax & Enjoy!

  • I don't think there is anything that you can do to stop worrying, and the pp is right, the worry won't stop at or after the 1st Tri.  I just tried to remember what my doctor told me at my first appointment - if something does go wrong, there isn't much they (or I) can do to stop it.  I just have to have faith that everything is going okay in there.  All that I can do is take my vitamins and eat healthy, because in the end that is all that I can really control.
