Anyone Using Dr.Brown's / Playtex VentAire Bottles?

I am trying to decide between Dr. Brown's and Playtex Ventaire Advanced.  I have heard people say the Playtex ones leak.  Thoughts on Dr. Brown's?

Or if you have any other suggestions for a baby who will most likely have acid reflux issues (both hubby and I do).

  • We use the Born Free bottles and love them. They have a good vent system for acid reflux but don't have as many parts as Dr. Browns. We tried the Playtex drop-ins but it took about twice the time for my daughter to drink the bottle. Not sure if it is the same nipple as ventaire. Born Free has really good customer service and will get back to you right away if you email them questions through their website.

  • We used Playtex drop in and Avent.  We tried Dr Browns, but all the extra pieces annoyed me and DS did better with the wider mouth bottles.

  • I'm going to use the Dr. Brown (since I already got them as shower gifts). I've heard they have a lot of pieces, but the good reviews seemed to outweigh the possible annoyance of the pieces.

  • Other random bottle thoughts that just came to me:  Make sure to have one of the bottle dishwasher baskets (2 is even better) if you are bottle feeding full time.  DS had reflux and the things that helpe the most was keeping him upright after feeding (if he fell asleep we'd put him in his bouncer seat), feeding smaller amounts more often, and being on the sensitive formula.  He was on meds for the first 6 months, but once he started solids we weaned him off them and he seemed to do okay.

  • I used Dr. Brown's with DD who had terrible reflux and they definitely helped cut down on the spitting up than normal bottles.  I am using them again for DS and though I am breast feeding, the occasional bottle he takes goes down easy.

There are more parts, but like a PP said, just get a basket for the dishwasher to put them all in and it really doesn't matter.

playtex works great for our son who had bad reflux for 8 months
  • I don't know about reflux issues, but wanted to comment on the Playtex VentAire bottles leaking.  The family I used to nanny for used them, and I only had one leak ONCE.  They only leak if you put them together incorrectly.  Once I knew what to watch out for, it never happened again.

  • we used drop ins and vent aire (once they came out with the wide mouth ones) for K when she took a bottle. Never had a leak.

I looked at Dr Browns, but with BFing we wanted wide mouth, and I didn't want the parts. She had horrible reflux, but the playtex bottles didn't seem to make it any worse.
