Supplements Question

I am going to pump myself full of supplements during this break time.

I'm going to take:

Wheat Grass

Royal Jelly

Prenatal

Calcium

Omega-3

Herbs from acu

I want to ask my RE about DHEA - b/c that's not something you can just go on w/o talking to the RE, right?

Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Re: Supplements Question

  • I am doing DHEA to try and improve my egg quality.

I did talk to my RE about it - we haven't decided if we are trying another IVF cycle or moving on the DE.  DHEA takes about 4 months to really make an impact.

I do have a study that was done on DHEA and I presented it to my RE.  He is actually checking into it, seeing if it can be done with EPP, and talking with other REs (nationally) who use DHEA and what protocol they recommend.

DHEA does alter your hormone levels, so I would talk about it with your RE first.

Is it an Rx or can you buy it over the counter?

  • You can buy it over the counter, but I agree that you should talk to your RE first.  Some RE's love it, some HATE it (like my RE!).
  • CoQ10 and Pine Bark Extract are also really great, safe antioxident type vitamins/supplements to take.  Those, along with my prenatal and a baby asprin are the only ones my RE is letting me take, because they have lots of good research done to back them up.
  • I just read a little about DHEA.  It sounds like it would be a terrible idea for me to take it b/c it's converted into testosterone and thus estrogen.  I have PCO - my testosterone is already a little high.

DHEA is not good for girls with PCO, only with DOR.  It increases testosterone, which PCO girls already have.

  •  I also take Co Q10 besides the Royal Jelly and Wheat Grass.  I take 600mg a day.  I have heard fish oil is good as well.
