DS is 2yrs 4 months old. He started showing some interest in the potty around 2 yo, so we got him his very own. He used a bit here and there and would mainly poop on it randomly, then stopped. We weren't really worried about it because he is still young and want him to be comfortable and ready for it, instead of us forcing him. Most days it would be used as a toy or a helmet.
Within the last week or so, he started changing a bit. You can tell he is uncomfortable with the diaper on, but also doesn't want to go in the potty. He tells me before he poops, and even brings me the diaper and wipes. When I try to take him to the potty, he freaks out and runs and hides and poops in a corner like a little scared puppy.
Then he started taking off his pamper. He doesn't want it on anymore. Yesterday he must have taken it off at least 10 times. 1 time he had it off and we had the potty near by, but he went into my closet and pooped on the floor! We tried re-explaining the potty and all that, but it doesn't work. Another time he pooped in the pamper, took it off and brought it down to me with poop flying everywhere. Gah.
I don't know what to do. Should we attempt big boy underwear? Stick with the pampers? Positive reinforcement? I'm at a loss here. Any advice and/or tips are much appreciated!
Re: Need some help/advice
I would put him in underwear and just be prepared for alot of accidents at first. DS was also the one who decided it was time to be PT not us, and we quickly realized there wasn't much we could do about it. So we went straight to underwear and it has gone so well, so smoothly. We still have issues with him not wanting to poop in the potty, but everything I've read says that is common at first.
And you have to ask him to sit on the potty alot, and even bribe him. He rarely asks to go potty on his own. I don't force him, but he's not to the point of being responsible for it on his own yet. Get some potty books, M&M's, stickers, etc and go for it!

We're totally not there yet so this is NOT from experience.
Maybe see if he wants the potty in the closet or in the corner. Maybe he wants to hide but he'll poop where he's hidden.
