Is this a bad idea for DS?

I am looking at this bed for DS. Do you think the stairs and bunk bed make it a bad idea for a 2 year old? Is there anyway I could block the stairs? I want something he can grow with and would love a bunk bed for future slumber parties and such and for extra room for DD when we have guest, but I am thinking that this is a bad idea?

    They say not to put kids in a top bunk until around age 6.  Unless you can not have the stairs or anyway to get to the top bunk, I would skip it.

    If it was my kid, yes. It's a terrible idea. She's a climber and gets on top of everything. And blocking the stairs is just making it all that more attractive. Again, from a mom who's child has always been a climber.

    I like the bed and I also like the idea for future expansion, however I would worry about DS climbing it and trying to jump on the top bunk.  Would it be possible to put the stairs against the wall until your DS is old enough to be trusted with it.  It would make it a bit of a pain when you want DD to sleep on the top bunk when company is over, but how often does that really happen?  My SIL has had bunk beds for 2 of her girls since the youngest was 2, however her older sister was sleeping on the top so I think that helped to keep her from climbing the ladder.

    The stairs are just too tempting for any child.  I would look into a trundle bed instead.
