bewbies, i mean! i finally went to get fitted yesterday, my old bras are seriously too small. I went to nordstrom b/c they're supposed to be great at it - i took off my shirt, she measured under my chest, took a look at my chest, and came back with a bra that fit great...and proceeded to tell me it's a DD. !! i guess I should have expected it, but I was completely shocked! (i was a B+/C-) haha.
my original plan was to go ahead and get a nursing bra at my friend's recommendation - she said they were really comfortable and pointed out i'll need some later anyway - but the nordy's lady recommended i go back 2 weeks before my due date to get fitted again, and buy one then, since i'll probably change in size again.
so, experienced mamas - thoughts? how much bigger should i expect to get?
i did buy the bra at nordstrom, but ended up returning it before leaving the mall b/c i found one at the victoria's secret sale that was less than 1/3 the price of the nordstrom one, and i liked the shape it gave me better!
Re: let's talk about the girls, shall we?
yay for getting fitted. good fitting bras are a must have for me. I use to work at nord as a fitter. worst job ever, but it did teach me a few things about bra shopping.
I should be embarrassed to admit this, but I waited until I almost had to go back to work to get real nursing bras. I guess I wanted to make sure everything was working out b/c I knew (given my size 36G or H depending on the brand - up from pre pg size 34DD/E) that they would be pricey. I lived in nursing tanks until then.
I have heard the +/- 2 weeks of due date window is optimal. Although if you got them from nord. you could always exchange or return.
alrighty, guess i'll wait and buy nursing bras and nursing tanks later! (not even sure yet whether i'll use both? whether i'll like one more than the other? i can worry about it later, i guess!)
plus, i don't feel so bad after having spent $22 (instead of $70!
) on a new bra that i really like - will probably get another if i can find one in my size
good to know! thanks
thanks for all the other comments too! really helpful...
I forgot about sleep bras! Def. get those before hand - I still use them to keep the nursing pads in place during the night (yes, I still get engorged and leak overnight
) Nothing fancy, the cheap 2/$20 from motherhood are good enough and they are sized s-xl (I think they run kind of big) so you could easily pick the up before you know what size you are or will be.

I'm with Ericka...not loving the bigger bewbs! I went from a B to a D.
Definitely wait to get fitted. In the mean time, Target has cheap nursing tanks (I LIVE in them) and nursing bras.
Mine grew pretty early on, and I got new bras at about 9 weeks, and haven't needed any other new ones until now (I just bought a few nursing bras).
I agree that getting fitted properly is key, but I, honestly, have never had any luck at Nordstrom. I know they're supposed to be the place to go for bras, but it always seems to be old ladies working there (whenever I go in, anyway), who don't seem to "get" what I'm looking for. I've had a lot of luck at Soma lately.
Chiming in late...
Pre-preg I was a 40DDD(F) and got new bras towards the middle of my pregnancy and got a 42DDD, but honestly, they were always big on me, I should have just stuck with 40DDD. I only had sleep bras and nursing tanks for the weeks after delivery and then around 3 weeks PP ordered my nursing bras...I am now a s 40I (yep, that's an
)! Boo! And I weight less now than on my wedding day but the boobs are still huge. Needlesstosay, I'll be getting a breast reduction once my nursing days are behind me.
BTW, I love the Target Nursing Tanks...I wear them in an XXL. I have both the side sling and full sling ones and live in them. I wear them as soon as I get home from work (and get out of my bra) as well as with my bra under a tee so I can nurse descreetly when I am out without a cover (since Libby hates to have something over her head). And they're affordable and come in many colors. I highly recommend. I also recommend www.breakoutbras.com for nursing bras...I got all of mine there and they have great prices, a fantastic return policy and nice staff/customer service.
My favorite is this Elomi Bra: https://breakoutbras.stores.yahoo.net/elsmcupnubra.html
It's not cheap and took a while to ship since it was backorderd, but I love it. The clips were a challenge to deal with at first, but I've got it down now (they squeeze open rather than clip on a hook like my nursing tanks).

Thanks for this link! I've bookmarked it, and will probably use it after giving birth. I also am a big girl (36DD pre-preg, 38DDD now, we'll see after!), and this looks like it has good support.
sorry, I am late to post.... the target ones were just on sale for 20% off with $5 off $50 coupon too but looks like the sale already ended. i think you can go to your target and get them though, although i've read selection is limited now since they are clearanced at $8-13. they tend to run small, i think...just fyi. but you could definitely go and get some and return them later (90 day returns) if you didn't like them.
oh and i was 34B pre-PG and 34D by the end of my first tri and then didn't grow anymore after that until my milk came in...at that point i went up to a 34F and i am probably a 34E/F depending on when i last nursed now.
