Activity ideas for DH

I'm headed to the beach this weekend with my BFF for a girls only trip (yay!)  So, DH will be home with Holly all weekend. I'm trying to think of ideas for activities that he can do with her to get them out of the house.

Since it's so hot, parks and places like that are out. I'm thinking indoor stuff. So far all I've thought of are Marbles, a public pool (or, does the Y do day passes, do you know?), and walking around Petsmart (that kid LOVES Petsmart. hehe).

Any other ideas? I know it's just a couple of days, but I wanted to try and give some options of fun stuff to do on their Daddy/daughter weekend. :-) TIA!

Re: Activity ideas for DH

  • DH fav activity w/dd is Petsmart! What about lunch out at CFA and then playing the indoor play area there? Ours has a "3 and under" section. Going to the library and check out books or going to a mall play area.

We also set up a back yard water area with our beach umbrella and small inflatable pool and our water table.

Tomorrow we are trying the Millbrook exchange pool that has a spray area, and everyone says it is a lot of fun, he could look into that. It is $3 to get in for adults and $1 for kids.

  • I don't know about Y day passes.  Maybe you could call and ask.

As for other activities, maybe they could go out to breakfast together.  We love eating at North Hills on the weekends and shopping at the Farmer's Market they have.  Sometimes they have the area in front of Starbucks sectioned off for kids to run around.  People bring their puppies out there so that could also entertain her.

They could also go to the "real" farmer's market.

They should definitely hit up the library (gotta love the air conditioning!) and check out a few books.

The mall has the cute rides for a few quarters.  Then they could go to the Disney store and run around.  I would say Chuck-E-Cheese but I would not dare go in that place on a weekend....AGHHH!

I'll try to think of other ideas.

Enjoy your girls only beach trip!!

  • Does he have any friends with kids Holly's age?  When I was out of town a couple weekends ago for a girl's weekend, DH called up one of his friends who has a DD Eli's age and they went over to their house to play.  It worked out b/c his wife is a nurse and was working.  But if she wasn't I'm sure she would have taken advantage of the situation and found something to do on her own!

  • I would call the YMCA to double check but I think you can get in for the day as a nonmember for $10 ($5 for Holly) so it would be $15 to go to their pool. I am a member there but DH and DS are not so I recently looked into pricing for guests. I would think this would work if you are not a guest of a member but he should double check first.

I hope you have fun this weekend!

  • Maybe, it would be nice to have an unplanned weekend with her dad.  Let him be creative as you enjoy your weekend with the gals.

He actually has her by himself her more than I do, so he certainly knows what to do and what she enjoys. I just want to give him some fun, new ideas to get out of the house, since sitting in the house with a toddler can be trying sometimes. :-).

  • Sorry, hope it didn't sound bad what I suggested.

Maybe the Farmers Market then or a trip to the library like previously suggested.

  • The Cary Aquatic Center is not so far from y'all - their open swim times are available on their website.  There is an admission fee as well, but it's pretty reasonable (we haven't been since last year, so I don't remember what it is).

And I second the Farmer's Market :)  Just early before it gets swamped!
