I am having a difficult time deciding on the type of crib to buy....a regular one, or one that turns into a toddler bed and then a regular bed. How did you make your decision? Any pros and cons of either?
The crib we're buying converts to a toddler bed, but that's it. I personally don't like how cribs look converted to "real" beds, but that's just me . By the time this one is ready for a big kid bed, we'll probably get him a twin and design a new room for him.

I have a standard crib. I personally don't like the way the convertible cribs look, plus I wanted all my babies to use the same crib. So 2.5 years later, we are moving my son into a twin bed and using the crib for baby #2.

Exactly this!
My birthson who came before I was ready. He doesn't call me mom but I love him just the same. ~7/10/99~
We bought a convertible crib with the thought of changing it all the way through to a full bed. This is assuming we don't have another one before toddler years take over. I think ours looks pretty good as a regular bed, but then again, maybe I didn't look too closely!

Our "kid rooms" aren't really big enough to handle a double bed, which is what most convertible cribs seem to be set up for. I figure for the price of a convertible crib plus the conversion kit, I can get a nice, inexpensive crib then a twin bed later on.
I'm just going with one I like. Whether we decide to use it later, if it's convertible, we'll worry about then. Right now, the one I like best converts to a daybed, which would be ok.
Read the book "Baby Bargains" -- it's really informative.
Essentially, they tell you that toddler beds are pretty useless and you shouldn't get a convertible unless you actually have room for the full size bed in the baby room.
I am going to look for a standard crib because baby girl will be in it for 18-36 mos and we would like to have another one in that span. So we can just buy her a new "big girl" bed for when we are hopefully blessed with a second child.
I'm sure there are cons of the convertible cribs but we are going with one. I like the idea of being able to convert. We may or may not have a second child and the room will be big enough for a double bed anyway.
I just like the option. We also chose normal looking dressers to match so that once we convert it it will look like a normal bedroom set.
The crib we like best is a convertible, but I didn't really care whether it was convertible or not. I don't know if we will actually every convert it. We plan to have more kids and use the crib for them so we really don't know what shape it will be in, how much room we will have, etc. at least 5 years from now. I like the way it looks if we do end up converitng it and we are getting the matching dresser, so it's nice to have the option, but I would just go with whatever crib you like best.
we got a standard crib from Young ameria. I just liked the way they look and seem smaller then a convertible crib. Plus I do did not care for how most of the convertible look once they are used as a full bed. I did not care for how the foot board is just as high or almost as high as the head board. And another thing that i did not care for is some convertble's had a solid head board and slates for the foot board. did not care for that once it was made into a full bed. I really do not care for how some standard cribs look either when they make a toddler bed because they look like they are in prison.
