Spent the morning in the ER

Went to the ER at 4am this morning because I had been bleeding yesterday afternoon/evening and when I used the restroom at 4am I wiped something that did not seem good. The ER doc did a pelvic exam and said the cervix were closed but I had a "fingertip cervix" and the muscles were relaxed. He did some blood work and said my HCG was at 74. He told me to follow up with my OB Monday morning and to have blood work done again Tuesday to see if my level had changed. They are testing the specimen I brought in and said I should have the results in 4/5 days. He told me more than likely I had miscarried. Do you think what I wiped may have been the baby, even though he said my cervix was closed? I was appoximately 5/6 weeks pregnant, I hadn't been to my first appointment yet. I am just worried about whats to come.

    I'm sorry you are going through this...I cannot say what is going on though, I haven't heard of a story like yours on here and it was not like my losses.

    I'm curious why the doctor didn't do a u/s?  That would be able to answer your question probably.

    I hope you get answers at your OB's office tomorrow.  *hugs*

    Oh sweetie Im so sorry you have to go through this.  I was in the same sistuation a week ago.  I too was 5 weeks and hadnt been to my first apt.  Its hard to say what is going on.  For some wemon it is normal and some it is not.  When you go to your ob they will do another hgc test and thats how they can tell for sure this early.  I pray that eveything is good with you when you go.  Just think good thaughts and try not to worry ( I know that you still will).  Good luck.

    I am so very sorry you are going through this.  I was in the ER on Wednesday.  My spotting turned into heavy bleeding with clots.  My cervix was closed too, which was good, but the amount of blood was not good.  I had an u/s done to determine if there was a heartbeat and to check for an ectopic.  I am very surprised your visit did not get an u/s stat.  I passed the sac later that night with the help of methergine, so yes, it is possible that was the sac the baby was in when you wiped, that early it can pass through a closed cervix.  I am so sorry for your loss.  I was just about 6 weeks, I had gone to my OB on Tuesday due to spotting and my HCG was 400, on Wednesday it had dropped to 215.     It is hard to say. A lot of women have bleeding in the first trimester especially early on and go on to have healthy pregnancies. You will not know until you find out if your HCG will double in the 48 hour period. I know its hard but its a waiting game if you are early. Try not to worry too much, I know its hard I have been there but you may be just fine. I am sorry that you are going through this. My prayers are with you!
