Hands free Pumping Question

My LO never latched and its a constant struggle to try everytime we do so I have been pumping and supplementing.  I am trying to build my supply and I know that it involves pumping every couple hours. I have the avent pump and I have to hold it.  I was wondering if there is a pump out there that I do not have to continously hold so that I am able to be attentive to my LO.  She is a needy one! Any suggestions is helpful!

I also posted on bf board but no replies.

TIA

Re: Hands free Pumping Question

  • I took a sports bra and cut two holes in it right where my nipples would be. The holes stretched enough that I could put the shield part (don't know the proper name for it) through it to pump. I could pump hands-free, and then just pull them out when I was done. Made pumping SO much easier. HTH!

  • the medela freestyle is hands-free but way pricey.  you can cut holes in an old bra or use this method for a regular pump though!

  • the freestyle is designed to be a hands-free pump...  the benefit of this one over the regular pump in style is that the motor is much more portable.  if you got a pump in style (also by medela) you'd have to cart around a big bag with the motor in it while you pumped.  the freestyle's motor is about the size of a grapefruit and it has a belt clip on the back.  it's pricey for sure, but worth it if you really need a completely hands free pump.  you can also buy it for 20% off at BRU if you use a coupon.
  • I just bought a $30 handsfree bra from Amazon.com.  Definitely cheaper than buying a new pump!  It is Easy Expressions bustier.  Using it for the first time right now and sort of LOVING it! :)  Good luck!

Also, check with a LC if you can to improve LO's latch.  Honestly, pumping doesn't extract as much milk as LO can, so it is definitely worth working with LO for a better latch.

wow... those are great suggestions!  I only pump once per day so my DH can bottle feed once a day but I think I'll use give those suggestions a try!

I did this with a 'clasp in front' bra that I bought at Walmart for $8

  • I bought the Simple Wishes hands free pumping bra. Totally worth the money! It makes pumping very, very easy.

I cut holes in my hanes barely there shaping camisoles. they are tight from pre preg, and maneuver the part attaches to the flanges out of the holes, then attach the bottles.

works great - I have the Lansinoh double electric.
