Crawl before roll?

Have you ever heard of a baby (or has your baby) crawled before rolling back to tummy?  I'm starting to think this is the direction Claire is going but it seems odd to me.  She has no desire to try to roll from her back to her tummy.  She will lay on her side and then just play with her feet or go back to her back deciding the toy she was trying to get just isn't worth the effort anymore.  But she loves to sit up and is starting to reach out for things more and I'm think she may go from sitting to crawling this way (vs. crawling from pushing up from her tummy) before she'll ever roll.  Anyone else's LO roll later?  Any other suggestiosn for encouraging her to roll other than placing toys just out of her reach and showing her how to roll?  TIA

  • Nicolas rolled back to tummy around the same time he started crawling.  He rolled back to tummy while he slept not in the daytime.  He loved tummy time so he did the push up to the crawl.  HTH

  • Yep, Kira!

She never had any desire to roll.  The day she started crawling (a day or two before 9 months, if I recall correctly), suddenly she rolled for the first time, and with the best of 'em at that.  She could go all directions and made it look effortless!

I was honestly never worried that she didn't roll.  She just never tried, which selfishly speaking was fine with me since she stayed wherever I put her!  (Well, she started scooting on her butt around 7 or 7 1/2 months -- that was a trip. ;))  I knew she'd roll over once she wanted to.

Come to think of it, she napped for about a month beginning around 8 months, and the day she started crawling/rolling she stopped napping again until after her first birthday -- she rolled over as soon as I put her in her crib and she crawled/stood the whole time!  I might never had that month-long insight into the bliss of having a child nap had she rolled earlier, LOL. ;)

  • Liam was on the late side for rolling back to front too, 7 or 8 months I think.  I think it just never really occurred to him before then, and one day he just figured it out.

Liam cruised before he crawled, so I figure any order of things is possible! :)

  • My DD will roll from her tummy to back, but not back to tummy. She hasn't really crawled yet, but she's trying to. So she may crawl first. lol.

I think its just one of those things that different babies do at different times. I wouldn't worry, until the Doc worries.
