Full moon and birth???

Has anyone ever heard about this supposed link between a full moon, and the gravitational pull on amniotic fluid, causing the sac to break? You know how it affects the tide, so it makes sense that it would have this effect. I know it sounds crazy, but I'm halfway believing it. My due date is Monday, so maybe I'm just deliriously pregnant, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this?

Re: Full moon and birth???

  • DD was a full moon baby so we always joke that that's what did it... she was born 2 days after her due date and there is a full moon 2 days after my due date this time so DH thinks that when I'll go into labor with this baby.

  • I've read that it's just an old wives tale . . . but I'm up in the middle of the night timing contractions, so who knows?  (I have a feeling this is just yet another false alarm, though.)

  • Yes, I've heard of the tides changing because of a full moon and also heard that it can affect the water in our bodies similarly (we are mostly water anyway, right?).  We don't officially have a full moon until next Saturday, June 26th though... I'm due July 6th, so I wonder if it will help me go early!

  • I am looking forward to June 26th... Big Smile
  • We asked our doctor about it at our last appointment as the full moon is 4 days past our due date.  She said that there's no hard evidence but from their experience there always seems to be a spike in births around the full moon.
  • I'm hoping for the same thing everyone!  I'm due on Friday and wouldn't mind it if she came out Saturday....at least she'd be coming!   Good Luck to all of you!
  • I have always heard that the mat hospital is crazy busy during full moons, though my friends dh asked if they schedule extra staff on those nights and the nurse said no so who knows!!!
