Anyone know of a good computer website to help with pre-readers?

Ava is showing quite an interest in learning to read so I was to provide her with resources to help her. We do a ton of sounding out letters etc while we are reading a book, making dinner. etc, but she loves the computer and I think a website might be right up her ally.

  • DS likes Starfall.  He also likes PBS kids - it's got word world, etc - and it works on pre-reading a lot.

  • Jackson is obsessed w/ starfall.com

In fact, we have to limit his time w/ it because he would do it all day.  Anyway, we have an old laptop that is now his, and he can do it all on his own, which is kind of great.

MH made a good point when I was fretting about him being obsessed with the computer -- teaching him to be self-sufficient on the computer will be a fantastic skill for him to have.  I mean, if you compare our computer literacy with our parents' computer literacy, how much easier did it come to all of us?  And with him starting on it now (long before either me or MH did), he will probably think we are totally computer illiterate one day.  ha!

He's already impressing me with his mousepad skills (we taught him to use that instead of plugging in a mouse).

This is Ava also! She has our old laptop - I made a shortcut to NickJr. and she just goes on by herself and plays.  I was amazed one day watching her - she also uses the laptop mousepad. It took me forever to get that damn mousepad down.

I know!  I've used a laptop for over 7-8 years now, and it took me a LONG time to get used to doing anything with just the mousepad.  Now it's all I use, but it took awhile to get there.

    Ah, kids these days... :)

Google poisson rouge. Can't give you link from my phone. Lots of fun stuff on that site.
  • Ditto starfall and PBSkids.org.  I think there are a few more links on the 2nd blog in my sig, too.
