Nebraska Babies

Bellevue Med Center

Hi Everyone! I wanted to introduce myself and also had a question. My husband and I have been TTC for 4 years so we are ecstatic to finally be expecting!! We are pretty new to the area and have been working with a Fertility Dr so we are not sure which OB we will go with. We live near the Papillion/Bellevue area. We are going to tour Midlands tonight and will set up a time for the Bellevue Med Center. I was just wondering if anyone has been to the BMC?

Congrats to everyone else here and I pray for a H & H 9 months for us all!!

Re: Bellevue Med Center

  • I haven't been there because they don't accept my insurance yet but a good friend of mine has been there.  She says its really nice and the birthing rooms are nice.  However, it does not have a NICU.  I believe it has room for 2 - 3 babies for the NICU.

Have you thought about UNMC?  They are affiliated with BMC.  I have heard great things about them and they have a wonderful NICU.  That is where I'm going and so far I like it.

  • Thanks for the info! We are going to tour BMC this weekend. Depending on how many we have (will find out 6/15 if it's twins, we did IVF) we will check out UNMC, I would feel better with a NICU right there with twins.

We toured Midlands last night and I was shocked! There is no way I would ever conciser going there!

  • Hi 123grace! Congrats on the baby(ies?)!!

Do you have an OB or midwife yet? S/he might have permissions at select hospitals, so you might check with them first before making your hospital choice. We also live in the Papillion/Bellevue area. My OB delivers either at Midlands or Bergan-Mercy. We've chosen to go with Bergan-Mercy (even though Midlands is literally behind our apartment!), Bergan has a level III NICU, the highest level in the area. It's in the Alegent network, not Nebraska MC.

If we our insurance took Nebraska MC, we'd consider delivering at Methodist rather than Bellevue, just because I have heard VERY good things about labor experiences from other mommies and would be unsure about a super new hospital.

If your insurance covers both networks, the Omaha area is open wide to you, haha!

Good luck on your quest and congrats again!

(BTW, I noted you went through IVF. Did you go to Heartland? We achieved our pregnancy through IUI with their help! Every time we drive passed there, I always think of what they've given me!)

We did use Heartland! We had a great experience with them and honestly I'm a little nervous/scared to move to a new Doc. Infertility is such a journey, I feel "safe" there and am trying to process the whole thing. We have wanted this for 4 years it just really does not seen real yet! We have our first U/S next Tuesday so I think things will sink in more then.

I totally understand the feeling of surreality! It took us five years. And to go from dwelling on wanting to be pregnant for that long---- to suddenly BEING pregnant... it was real shocker!!! It all started to feel more real once we got out of the first trimester and began showing. Even now, I wake up in the morning only to remind myself I am REALLY am pregnant! It REALLY happened!

Trust the folks at Heartland--- when they release you, they are saying you are ready! It's very scary, yes, because you have no idea what to expect or if you'll become a statistic. But just cross your fingers and hope for the best. That's all you can really do and the best is more likely than the worst. Just look forward to bringing your little one(s) in to Heartland in eight months :)

Bellevue Medical Center has a small Level II NICU. If the baby needs advanced care, he/she will be transferred to the Nebraska Medical Center. We are also Level III like Bergan, Children's, Creighton, the new Methodist...all the same high level of care.
